Unhappy My Fans are killing my alternator heeeeelp :(

I don't know if this is the right place to post this thread
well I have a 160* thermostat i don't have any over heat issues
my coolant temperature never exceed 205 but i have a problem when i stuck in a traffic jam my fans keep working hard together and after 15 min my alternator voltage keep drooping until 12.8V

my fan settings as my tuner make them :
both On at 201
both off at 190

are those good settings ?
i think one fan should work first then if the temperature keep climbing then the other one should work to support first fan.

and yes this is a new alternator and new battery

I was gonna say if you truely do have a 160 stat that those fan temp settings are a little high. Mine is setup like this:

Fan 1 on 185
Fan 1 off 178
Fan 1 enable speed 30mph
Fan 1 disable speed 35mph
Fan 2 on 187
Fan 2 off 178

have you tried overdriving your alternator?

and 12.8v doesn't seem that bad sitting in traffic.

maybe its time for an EWP

I would go to a shop and have them check the amp out put of the alternator. My fans run almost all the time, they never shut off in town and thats all I drive, My alt charges 14 V all the time.

12.8V is on the low side in any circumstance with the car running.

Do you have an underdrive pulley / balancer? If so, that's your problem.

If not, your battery or alternator are getting weak.

UDPs run everything on the belt slower, by definition, causing less "drag" on the crankshaft. Your PS, water pump, alternator, & AC will NOT operate at their peak RPM.

So as a result, you're putting more strain on your accessories at low RPM, but getting more horsepower.

That could be why your fans keep coming on - because your water pump can't keep up with the demand, so the fans come on, which drains your alternator, which strains the battery, which robs your spark efficiency..... etc.

Put your stock pulley back on, get rid of the UDP and your problems will go away. Consult your tuner 1st, he may have to get in there and change some **** after you swap them out.

No. Because then you're putting MORE electronics on to strain your already hurting charging system. If you bypass your water pump & A/C, your alternator IS STILL going to spin slower with the UDP. If it was my decision, I'd get rid of the UDP, and call it a day.

Lightbulb

Bump up your idle speed to 850-900rpm and see if that helps.
If that doesn't help enough get a overdrive alt pulley that will put the alt back in the right rpm range.

That's a good point. If electrical is the problem, you could always overdrive JUST the alt. pulley and still have some use of the UDP.

Most do not underdrive A/C for the record!

Really? Then why do you need 2 new belts for an LS1 UDP?

master pro platinum has a part number for the alternator on a police package camaro. it's a 130 amp if i am not mistaken. thats what i would use with an underdrive. but......you'll need to find a bunch more **** to put on your car with all that amperage!
