which valve springs

i just ordered MTI C1 and now which valve springs should i go with? :hail:
is it a must to have tit. retainers??

1point3liter 11-13-2003 09:55 AM

Comp 918's are popular. I'm also running Comp ti retainers.

TVWilkes 11-13-2003 09:58 AM

Go with the crane dual spring.

Tally TransAm 11-13-2003 10:11 AM

im running a cam with C2 specs and will be running crane duals (as soon as they show up at my door)

is anyone running the manley springs if so which ones?

SouthFL.02.SS 11-13-2003 10:35 AM

I used Comp 918's when I had that cam.
Tit Rets. would be nice, but not necessary.
Do get hardened pushrods though.

im running those springs with my 230. i believe the springs are manleys just packaged in a SDPC box, the tit. retainers are manleys. the kit is a great price and i havent had any problems.

SouthFL.02.SS 11-13-2003 08:26 PM

It's not a must, but it's strongly recommended. When you compare the two next to each other you'll see why.

Mike K. 11-13-2003 11:02 PM

are the crane duals the drop in springs? Are there any other dual springs that are stronger that are drop in?

SouthFL.02.SS 11-13-2003 11:47 PM

Comp now has drop in dual springs.

FILE 11-14-2003 12:42 AM

I am going with 918 springs and Thunder Racing hardened pushrods for my cam swap.

CAT3 11-14-2003 12:56 AM

Comp 921's. Drop in's. Might look into these once my 918 have enough miles, or shall I say qtr mi passes on them...

Jabroni 11-14-2003 02:28 AM

I'm using 918's and the "772" Ti retainers with a C1. 10K on the springs and so far, so good. I also am using the hardened pushrods.

Beavis5.3 11-14-2003 07:53 AM

The Crane duals are a drop in spring, no machining.

I'd say no matter what, go with a dual spring and stay away from the singles. There's another post befoer this one where a guy used those Comp 918's and the spring broke, wreaking havoc in the engine. With a dual spring you're almost always gonna have one spring to keep the valve up and save the motor from serious damage if you have a spring break. Plus, the duals have better harmonics for sustained RPM's and longevity.

Red01Chevy 11-14-2003 08:13 AM

what are the prices and part numbers on the comp and crane dual springs?? can i use my stock retainers and locks?

Cstraub 11-14-2003 09:06 AM

There will be a couple of new valve springs introduced for the LS1/LS6 applications at the PRI show in December. A drop-in 1.260" made from ultra clean chrome silicon. Also a 1.480" spring for the high lift stuff. These engines will also benefit from the restrictor pushrod which helps in maintaining proper valve pressure in the lifter and promotes higher rpm.

for a MTI C1 cam which pushrods should i get what length??

SouthFL.02.SS 11-14-2003 10:33 AM

Match the stock length.
