So to flycut for 2.02 and 1.60 valves you should use cutter-valves in approximately 2.06+ and 1.64+? What size valves should be used if flycutting in this method?

^ I think you just answered your own question.

I've seen people mention this before and they've always gotten flamed for it. I give you kudos for illustrating that it works.

A 2.08 valve wouldn't be too big, I had a set of LS6 heads with 2.08 valves. A 2.08 valve would be a good choice to cut a relief for a 2.05 valve. On my car, we just used the stock size valves and ended up going in and hand finishing them with some sandpaper and a small grinding stone because of what Predator-Z said - I wanted to make damn sure there was no chance the valves would hang up in a valve float situation.

Smoothing them out will help from creating a hot spot as well.

Shoot me a PM when you go to the track - I'm interested to see how it runs.

I finally got around to doing this over the past weekend. Worked like a charm. TEA threw in an old 2.04 valve they had lying around when I had them do a VJ on my heads and I used that. I only cut the intakes .040

Thanks for the tip.

One question..... how smooth do the reliefs really nead to be??

take few minutes to sand em or file down the sharp edges. leave a bullnose finish on the sharp edges. as smooth as possible

I turned a over sized valve into a cutter with a couple cut off disc's and a sharpened it. it cuts nice valve reliefs.

i made same thing, but this version more practical. imo
i for one will never buy a fly cuting tool again. just over sized valves and sandpaper

Has anybody ever had any problem with the little sandisk slipping off, or do they hold tight?

It's a bit tougher with the engine in the car, had to go pick up a right angle drill.
