Default Eagle Rods + L19 ARP's = Need to ???

Anyone had to resize the rods due to a bit of distortion?

I have not bought the stuff yet but I have been told .005 distortion from the L19's is pretty likely.

How much for the rods and how much for the resizing? I have not had experience with them personally but if you are getting a killer deal on them then I would say go for it John. Just my .02

John,

That's seems like a ton of distortion for a rod bolt to do. maybe .0005 but 5 thou is way off.

I bought a new set of eagle rods and one rod was .0003 bigger than the rest touched it up on the end and honed good to go they were all on the mid tolerance.

I'm mostly finding Eagle rods for ~$400.

L19's are the upgraded ARP rod bolts.

I have a set of these with the L19 bolts and as I told John by e-mail they distorted 0.0005 not 0.005, so you are correct SStrokerAce. The bolts that come standard with the rods have a torque spec of 50ft/lb and the L19 bolts are torqued to 79 ft/lb. It said in the paper-work that came with the L19 bolts that rods should be re-checked after install because of the extra 60% of torque.
The L19 bolts are 7/16" the complete shaft of the bolt where-as the standard bolt was 7/16" just at the threads and head and shaft was 3/8". I have just over $500 into my rods which includes $80 to get them perfectly round again @ the 79 ft/lb torque figure.

Just remember you get what you pay for! I have seen eagle go bad after 2 seasons in a 540 cu.in. bbc.Rod exiting through the side of the block.I would look into a higher quality rod like lunati, dyers or carillo.I was looking around for rods and was told that a sbc rod is the same as a ls1 rod and it was almost true. A stock sbc rod has .025 offset in the roda ls1 has no offset. This means that a sbc rod in a ls1 will not be centered on the wrist pin it will be .025 toward the front of the motor or to the rear of the motor. Most companies will do a small block rod with no off set you just have to wait for them to get a a shipment of blanks in and pay a little more. The gain is a wider selection of lenghts. If we could get a 6" rod we could get one hell of a n2o piston in our motors.
