Default Need advice before LQ9 purchase (PTV/mods/etc)

Hey everyone. Before I take the money plunge on a LQ9 to replace the blown LS1, I want to ask you guys if it's possible to swap the mod parts off the LS1 onto the LQ9, and whether I need worry about flycutting/PTV/etc. kind of issues.

The previous owner (who blew the LS1 up) told me the car put down upper 4xx rwhp. This LS1 motor has:

5.3 706 Ported Heads & a 238/242 113 cam matched from HPE (not sure of lift)
Fast 90/90 & NW 90mm TB

and some other mods. Would this combo work well on that 364 ci LQ9 shortblock? Also, from swapping shortblocks, how much off is the tuning going to be? Thanks in advance!

as i'm sure you already know your gonna have to measure ptv to be sure. i'm building a lq9 setup now and i'm running 243's with a clean up pass and a custom cam yet to be determined. degreeing the cam and measuring ptv and pr length is the only way to be sure

Most everything will transfer over no problem. I don't know of anything that fits on an LS-1 that won't fit the 6.0. I am sure there are a few things but as far as I know everything swaps. Obviously pushrods, and other clearance things need checked but you should be very happy with not having to change much.

Give Texas Speed a call, you can buy the block from them along with the rotating assembly and they should be able to match some pistons to go with your heads. I bought my 408 from them and had it installed there, it dynoed at around 446RWHP. Hope that helps.

F body alternator bracket mounting bolts....the LQ9 will be missing a spot for one of your bolts. They say you can get away without putting the bolt there tho.

Some blocks have this problem, mine only had one of the alternator bracket holes and i had to drill and tap a hole in the face of the block. It's not really a big deal, but just one more step that I think is only going to happen on an earlier block.

You should check your PTV as stated, but it is doubtful that you would have any issues. Both engines have flat-top pistons. Its not a very hard swap everything goes together the same. I would recommend a gen3 block with teh knock sensors in the valley and cam sensor in the back just for ease of set-up, but a newer block can be made to work. Look out for reluctor ring count, as you would want a 24 tooth ring to match your LS1 computer (all gen3 engines).

Plan on tuning it, but you should have no real issues starting up this combo and driving to a tuner.
