Default Camshaft scratch. Any idea what caused and if I need to replace it?

Here are some pictures of the camshaft in my motor. I noticed these yesterday as I was getting everything ready to assemble. Naturally I turned it over with a wrench to inspect stuff prior to getting the top end on. Noticed these relatively deep (fingernail deep) scratches on the camshaft. What could cause this? Do I need to replace it?

take your cam out and look at it. if u can feel deeg gouges then its prolly not salvageable. its its just a scratch. u can prolly polish it out or send it to the place who made it and they can take some off of it, then u will have to cam doctor it again to see the new specs of it

Looks like the bearings in the lifter wheels came out and let the body of the lifter contact the cam. I had two lifter wheel bearings go out on me in a BBChevy and it wiped out a couple cylinder walls, the cam, and a few pistons. With gouges like that you need to check everything.

I checked everything. Everything else looks fine. Lifters actually look ok too, although it is pretty unnerving to reuse them. I bought this motor here on the forums and hope that they will replace this cam as it clearly needs to be replaced.

Looks to me like a lifter failed and was replaced.
