MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine I know you guys are curious, here is how it looks installed in the car. Hopefully it will be fired up today, after some final adjustments and settings are completed with the DFI engine control system. Only 4 more days until we leave for the Thunder Shootout! Mike has done this complete install himself, he deserves alot of credit! https://ls1tech.com/misc/434C5R02.jpg https://ls1tech.com/misc/434C5R03.jpg https://ls1tech.com/misc/434C5R04.jpg https://ls1tech.com/misc/434C5R05.jpg https://ls1tech.com/misc/434C5R06.jpg https://ls1tech.com/misc/434C5R07.jpg -Tony |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine That is Awesome!! Good Luck Guys I'll see you there!! |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Who's intake is that? Speed Inc's..... |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Not a Speed Inc intake, check the size of those runners. C5R heads have HUGE intake ports. Its a custom intake, 1 of 1. -Tony |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Nice!! Interesting injector placement too Is he running all motor at the shootout? What tranny/gear/raceweight will he have? Cheers, Chris [ October 28, 2002, 09:54 AM: Message edited by: Chris ARE 360 ] |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Any reason why you can't slap a set of C5R heads on any 4.125 bore block with a custom intake and keep the stock PCM running your injectors? I think 42#ers would be plenty of fuel for an engine like this. I might have to upgrade down the road. |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Yes, all-motor. I don't think Sanders intends to spray this setup anytime soon. Raceweight should be over the 3200 limit, the car is getting a 10-point installed and currently has a full interior. Current tranny is his TH350/brake, powerglide has been ordered but won't make it here for the event. Not sure on gearing, 5.13s? -Tony |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Good God Almighty! I cannot even begin to fathom the power that motor is going to make! |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Now that is a awesome setup!!!!! Congrats Colonel.. |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine So what air lid and catback is best for a solid roller 434 C5R? j/k Looks good though. J. |

What size dish pistons is he running? -20cc would put the chamber size to about 58cc, but that leaves the compression level still around 13.8:1 <- that is 104 unlead at least. I would love to see the dyno graph on her |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Compression ratio is high, its not a street purpose motor. It also runs on leaded race fuel. Exhaust system consists of 1-7/8" longtube headers, with a pair of extensions and bullet mufflers. Thats it! Terry, you could use a stock computer, but the limitation is the rpm tables I believe. This sucker is designed to spin some high rpm, so it needed the DFI setup. Also, since the DFI uses wideband O2 sensors to make corrections, no MAF or airbox, etc.. is required. Stock Eliminator LS1s run an open throttle body also. -Tony |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine This will give you an idea of how large the intake ports are on a C5R head: -Tony |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Just found this thread! Looks nice. Can't wait to see it in person...better yet, can't wait to drive it! I'll be running NA only with this engine for quite awhile. As Tony said, I'll still be running the TH350 (along with it's WAAAAAAAY too tight converter) at the Thunder Event though I don't know how many, if any, passes it will make it. Just going to keep my foot on the floor and my fingers crossed. Gearing will be 5.13. Pistons are flat tops....and no, it doesn't run on pump gas! |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine @#$* I gotta go change my draws now. [ October 28, 2002, 10:58 AM: Message edited by: verbs ] |

Most motors wont make more power beyond 16:1 compression on race gas. That injector sure is mounted up there. Why didnt they bring it down closer to the intake port, or is this a non issue since the motor is meant to run just at WOT? That motor looks kickass, I can't wait to see it in action! |

Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine What kind of numbers is that motor putting out ? |
Re: MTI 434ci C5R - Colonel's Engine Damn that looks good |
