Question California friendly, shorty header street cam?

I'm looking for a cam with overlap in the -4 to -9 degree range that will work good with stock heads and shorty headers, this is my DD and normally see's 2-4k rpm and a couple time a day see's 6k. I'm not looking for a completely stealth cam, Id like to hear it a little bit.

FYI, I'm aware of the "CheaTR" - 214/230 .601/.575 117 LSA cam, but I'd like something less stealth/with more cam sound.
Thanks!

I know of guys running a TR224 on 114LSA and passing smog.. and they still have some lope.. Im in NORCAL just for reference. so i kinda know what the deal is with smog . But then again i know a guy that passed smog with a G5X3 with stock manifolds so anything is possible im sure if you get a good tune.

Yeah, the 224-224 114 lsa is what I based my starting overlap range of -4 degree's with since my understanding is that the 224-224 114 lsa is as big as you should go as far as overlap here in Ca.

I will just say we are running larger cams then those mentioned and passing California smog with our 3rd gens. Mine is a 228/228 cam.

Yeah but I'm running shorty headers, wouldn't I need more exhaust duration, maybe like a 220/228 ?

Are you running a different tune just for smog purposes, what's the LSA on your cam?

Okay, so only 3 people feel there input would be of some value to me.....?
That's really sad, because the reason I come to this website is share information. I value the knowledge base of LS1TECH , so I eagerly await any and all input.

Thanks !

Now back on topic!

Its not as aggressive, but its technically CARB E.O. since its a factory cam, but what about an 02-04 Z06 cam?

I was going to reccomend this too.

Semi-stealthy and will deifnitely pass smog....just not sure it'll be agressive enough for him.

LS1 Hydraulic Roller Custom Cams 224/228 .581/.581 LSA 114 +1. I have this custom grind from AFR for sale with or without Melling HP pump and LS2 timing chain/gear set (fits but stronger than an LS1) $425.00 for all of it. Thats over $100.00 less than I paid! All brand new.

This "Which cam can i pass smog with in CA" has been beaten like a red headed step child. Either just get a 224 or call pat-g and get one custom spec'd so you dont have to get butthurt with all the suggestions or be like the rest of us, and go with a big cam and say **** it! I know more people than you can count running longtubes no cats and a big h/c combo in SoCal and weve never been hassled once...

I'd love to run Long tube header and a big cam, but there's no way I can pass smog (legally) with those, and that would be a big hassle (at least here in the central valley) that I don't want!
And yes I could say "**** it" and get a 224/224, but I doubt it would be the best choice with shorty headers, correct....?
So if you know someone who has a cam that works good with their shorty headers, that has (really) passed smog with it then please post there cam specs.

I look forward to all the suggestions, and promise not to get"butthurt".

Thanks!

+1 on this cam spec as I stated in the western sec.

TR has a new Cheater cam 219/230 .607/.607 117lsa with AFR heads package and works with stock manifolds w/cats or shorties w/cats. You just wont have the lope but could do cut out after the cats to keep it legal.
