Default oil pick up tube

OK so Ive searched on here and found out how important the o-ring on the pickup tube is for the oil pump. My question is, Why is there only one bolt holding the pick up tube to the pump? if the pump has two holes but the little bracket on the tube only has one hole for one bolt? or do i have something wrong on my car?

Not sure, thats just how its designed by GM.

Never noticed there was more than 1 bolt hole, was to pissed at how hard it is to get it in...the way the tube goes into the pump only one bolt seems to work fine.

Yeah, I didnt like it either, there is a girdle out on the market thats like 40 bucks. I just took a piece of steel, made a template and made another half of the tube then fired up the tig, I put a slight upward angle on it to help pull the tube down. Here is a pic, fit fine no problem and cheap piece of mind.

In order to put the gurdle you would have to completely remove the pan ??

Unfortunately Yes, I dont see any way in the world that you could do it with the pan on the car. Mine was easy because I had it out, Its now a 383 and I have done everything I could think of to keep this thing together, Your concern with the one bolt in the tube was one of mine also, So while I was waiting on my melling pump to arrive I took my old pump and fabbed up that little ear on the tube.
