Default Which route to go with my heads...

I've got a stock bottom end ls1 (128k) with an F13 cam (230/232 112LSA .595 lift) and PRC Dual spings. I got 241's on there right now with a valve seal leak and a very small valve cover leak (I replaced the gasket but it didn't go away). I'm debating what route to go, in regard to trying to make some more power, with the most bang for my buck being the main goal. I am not looking to spend 1-2k on a nice set of heads, just something to pick up some power and would compliment my cam. Some ideas and keep in mind these $'s are just off the top of my head:

1. Keep the 241's, pull em off, clean them up, send them out for a minor p/p and maybe vavle job to someone like TSP. PRICE: ~$400-$800

2. Pull off the 241's, sell them to make a little back, pick up some 243's and probably leave them stock, since i'll be spending ~$400-600 on them

3. Pull off the 241's, sell them, and pick up some 5.3 heads and most likely leave them stock as well, or get a p/p and valve job if I get them cheap enough.

I'd like to know your thoughts and how much power you think I could pick up going the different routes. Also, if there is an even better route to go please give me your opinions! Thanks in advance !

how much power are the 243 heads worth over the 241 heads...... considering the time and trouble it would to swap the heads is it enough power to do the swap???

You can get 243 heads for less than 400 if you get them from an ls2. The ls6 heads are what people generally ask more than 400 for. In my opinion I would go with the 243's because when it comes time to port you will not regret having them over the 241's. You will up your compression and have a nice set of flowing heads, and as far as power maybe someone else could answer that.

pull ur 241s and get a set of 243s..wheather you leav e them stock or get a p/p you will be happy. If it were me i would get a set of 243s and then contact TEA or cartek for their services..check out youtube or streetfire for some videos of these heads in action..

being budget limited, Def get 243s and a stg 2 port job by TEA. With that size cam, you shouldnt skimp out on heads.

Thanks for the replys! I've been leaning toward the 243's, I was just wondering if I should go for the 5.3's heads since it would bump the compression a little. I've heard going from 241's to 243's stock for stock is worth about 15-20hp. So that would be a good idea in the first place, since I dont' really want to put any money in the 241's. I know I need to contact someone, but does anyone know from experience how much it would cost to get 243's worked over from someone like TEA or TSP?

I think I heard there was a difference between the 243's from an ls6 vs from an ls2, something about the valves? Am I on the right track, or completely off haha. If there is, whats the benefit for going for the ls6 heads?

well the 5.3 head is good once you put some coin in them to upgrade to 2.00 intake valves, the 243 Outflows the 862's considerably and IMHO i'f your able to get them Ported the 5.3 heads will be the best HP per Dollar while if you can't afford any mods to the heads get the 243's as they work very nice in stock form IMO

Do you plan on flycutting? I'd say go with the stock 243 heads.

No, wasn't planning on flycutting because I don't think i'm going to have any PTV clearance issues since the cam isn't that big. I'm thinking I'm gonna end up with some 243's.

a reply to your earlier question about cost, i believe you can get heads porteird by tsp for around 500(guessing) TEA is a bit more expensive, i think their port program starts at 800. dont quote me on those prices going off memory..i would suggest checkin their websites..

I believe that anything over a 226 cam w/ 5.3 heads needed to be flycut.
