Piston to Valve Clearances Q's Just wondering what guys have ran without problems. I know what the minimum recommendations are suppose to be but just seeing who has pushed their limits. I'm running a stock bottom end flat top piston (L33) 5.3L and milled LS6 heads. I have .0625 intake PTV now. I like where I'm at with compression. Have heard alot of mixed reviews. Anyone just said screw it and than pass or fail? My set-up: Flat top 5.3L Stock Bottom End Patriot LS6 59cc Heads 2.02 Intake Valve 1.7 Y.T. Rockers Stock Lifters 7.400 Rods .051 LS6 Head gasket. |
That doesn't seem unreasonable. I've routinely seen guys on here with .06-.08 clearances. |
Thanks, that's all I'm after is what are some of you guys going in at? I've heard from some that they'd run 0.055 and some won't do anything under 0.080. I'm on the fence with how close I am. 50/50 Chance to being successful or the next "Fail" picture on a motivational poster. |
How did you measure? |
Made the lifter solid, set my valve train and play-doh on the piston. Tested a couple holes w/ lifters in stock form as well. Measured with a caliper. |
Yeah your fine. The deck will grow a little, and with valvetrain deflection you gain some more. I would run it if it was mine. :) |
i have the same thing going on right now. i have a l33 with stock bottom end, flat top pistons. i just installed a 220r cam with 581 lift 112lsa. my ptv is just over .05. came on here to see what yall think but i think im going to say go, bc i don't want to loss my compression ether. still would like a little more input. |
I'm at 70I and 90E. No issues with mine. |
