Estimated labor costs for a head/cam swap?
What would be a good estimate (labor only) to install a set of AFR's, cam and replace injectors from the local speed shop?? Thanks..

I am going to guess anywhere from 1200-1500. I would think that the shop would go by flat rate, and then charge you whatever is necessary if there is more time that is needed to complete the install.

All the shops around here charge more than $60/hr labor rate plus shop supplies, taxes, and other BS. But I can understand if you are swamped and need it to drive. My cousin has a shop and a labor guide if you need me to look up the flat rate hours and get an estimate for the job just to give you an idea I can. I would guess, looking up head gasket replacement and maybe doubling it for non stock heads and cam. Just a guess though.

i paid $2500 for labor to do a cam, valve springs, timing chain, clutch, intake, hook up a GM tuner to the ECU, ring and pinion swap, and basically bathe the heads in brake cleaner...thats at $90ish an hour though, shop rates are more than likely different down your way

I'd say around a $1k+ without a Tune. All depends how good the workmanship is of the shop. I was quoted $1500 with a full tune, so I did it myself. Granted took my time, sounds like for you time is money. At $60/hr, it would be cheaper to do it yourself.

Thanks for the replies.. Local speed shop is a little slow right now and they are good friends, probably just drop them a grand and pay for all the supplies.. they typically only charge 50/hr..

Expect to pay around $1500 plus the cost of your parts, that's the qoute I got. I am bout to do h/c, ls6 intake, LT headers, motor mounts, and catback all at the same time to make it easy.... I'm just waiting on the h/c. I plan on doing it myself with the help of a friend to save money and have a fun experience. This will be my first time doing major work on the car and ls1-how-to has a great write up on a h/c swap. Just do it your self man and save the money for a rear end : )

I used to be a fan of do it your self.. but then when youhaven't done it be fore and you screw something up.. then you gotta buy the parts again then pay someone else to do it.. I'd rather pay someone that konws what their doing then if something happens take it back to them to fix it... imo... but to answer your question, everyone is right about 1000-1500 depending on where your at.
