Oversized thrust bearing?

Do you know if anyone sells an oversized thrust bearing for our ls1's?

SPOOLIN Z28 02-03-2010 12:01 PM

Someone has to be able to help!

How much clearance do you have on thrust now

SPOOLIN Z28 02-03-2010 02:37 PM

Not a 100 percent sure. All I know is that the bearing seized up and ate up some of the side. Just wasnt sure if you can get an oversized thrust bearing. Its enough that the crank would walk a little.

You can typically find used cranks for about $100 bucks. Thats always an option too :thumb:

ttt...im in need of one. found out my thrust surface on my newly balanced crank is not perfect, useable, but not perfect, so im going to have it turned. i already got 3 crankshafts sitting in the garage and all 3 of them have bad thrust surfaces.

any opinions outside of another crank?

btw, when i tore my engine down, it had .100 of crankshaft endplay.

Many crank shops can weld up and repair the thrust.

i was pondering that as well...i just hope they dont rape me too bad. if i would have known that at the time when i bought my new (used) crank, i would have had mine repaired. now i got 130 bucks in this crank, i balanced it myself otherwise i would be throwing it thru someones windshield because im running out of room for lamp projects.

Not exactly sure how thats possible, my old engine had .040 and the counterweights were rubbing the mains. However, I only had rear side thrust damage. My front side looked great. Did you ruin both your thrust surfaces?

my counter weights were hitting the mains as well. i used a cheap dial indicator so it may have slipped on the base and gave a false reading. i didnt bother to get an accurate reading because i knew it was more than what it should be, so i got pissed and quit measuring.

the front side looks great. im concluding that my problems occored from a misadjusted clutch and air in the hydraulic system.
