Default Mysterious part in motor oil

hi there

i'm new on this forum, so first a little introduction: my name's Fabian, i'm from Switzerland and i own a 1998 chevy Camaro Z28

after changing the motor oil, the motor mechanic discovered this broken part:

(the 10 cent euro piece has the size of about 3/4 inch)

has anybody an idea what this part could be?
it's metal and magnetic

the engine works fine so far...

Thanks!

That is a bearing retainer for an LS Rocker arm. Look for a rocker with missing bearings. If you don't find one it just means a rocker has been replaced.

Considering the age of your car, I wouldn't be suprised at some breakage. I would recommend this upgrade to prevent it from ever happening again...

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&sid=901#P7566

This will replace the shafts, bearings, and keepers with new improved parts which will not come apart.

Thanks,
Shane

I have been finding the bearings from a rocker in my oil about two to three each oil change. As long as they dont get stuck in your oil pump.

Time to stop driving and take care of the problem now. A rocker arm failure can cause a lot of damage

Wow. Just wow. All it would take is one for me to pull them all off and replace. Those lil things could do alot of damage.

Very urgent. Fix it now before it gets real expensive.
It's a sort of common problem with these rockers, I don't think there is a specific cause for it.

I agree, I wouldnt drive it anymore. Since your overseas it may be easier to find the problem rocker or rockers and replace them immediatly. I would have the Comp Cams trunion upgrade, in link above, ordered and on its way as soon as possible.

You need a press to push out the old trunions and press in the new ones. If you dont have a press Spectacle Solutions will do the press work for you. I think they charge $80 for the service. I cant remember if you can just buy them outright or if they are on an exchange basis.

I know I plan to have my truinions upgraded very soon!!!

I was impressed with my Comp Cams LS Rocker Arm Trunion Upgrade. Now if only I had the funds to do it to these other 5 sets of stock rockers I have sitting here to sell them.
