Default yellow ls6 springs ok for tr224 cam?

i already have the ls6 springs (yellow) and i just bought a tr224 cam so i was wondering if i can use these or if i HAVE to get comp 918's
not to sound cheap, but i heard these were good for about .580 lift and since i already own them, i thought why not?

I have heard many times that the yellow springs were good till .570..but have seen reputable vendors recomend them for cams with .585 lift.....I think you would be ok up to 6300 rpms...

I always say and have been told do .050 more in spring lift capability than your final lift number for piece of mind. I would do the 918s yeah they are expensive but whats more expensive having to redo your valve train or block because of spring failure or buying springs that will tolerate just about anything that 224 is going to throw at them.

You should not judge the spring just by its lift handling capabilities. The issue is a bit more complex. The true Q to be answered is if those springs have enough spring pressures to handle the lobe of said cam.
The answer here is no, not for the long run.

The valve train isn't where you want to go cutting corners.

I agree, alot of people have done it, but it will be worth your time to buy some better springs.

918s will work perfect with this setup. Ive run them on every engine I build, that doesnt require dual springs. Heck I run them on things most people think need dual springs. Even my personal vehicle.

Patriot Gold duals here. . Dont be cheap when it comes to springs.

The patriot kit comes with dual springs, titanium retainers and new valve seals for 250$

Cant beat that, and the dual setup seems like it would be safter then a single.

I would pick the 1518's or 918's.

No knock on the Patriot springs, but at what point are you putting too much spring pressure and lift in there for a given cam?

I'd be happy to use Gold springs or 921's for that matter on a bigger cam, but does that make them still the best choice for a 224 with only .563" lift, even if the lobes ramp up fast?

I too think the 918s, or the other comparable springs, are a better match for the 224 cam. My PP LS6 heads came with dual springs but I think they're total overkill.

In fact I still have my 918s with real low mileage on them, maybe 1500 miles. I'd sell 'em real cheap if the OP or anyone else is interested. They're just sitting on my shelf collecting dust.
