Default Help me choose a cam please...

i have a 2001 camaro and i want to get Lt headers, exhaust and cam only i will also be getting springs, oil pump, timing chain and pushrods. these will be the only mods for a long time so i want to choose a good cam.

i want to get a cam that will give a lot of hp and still be reliable since it will my DD, i also want my motor to stay reliable and durable.

is the ms3 good for cam only car or is that to big...

You don't say whether you are an M/6 or A4 car but a MS3 needs gear or a stall to be a friendly streetcar because the powerband is so high. Also watch the lift and keep it 500's to low 600's so you are not changing springs all the time.....

I think you would be happy with something around a 224/224 up to a something like a tv2 (232/234). Get it on a 112 or 111 LSA to bring the power in sooner.....

People suck MS3's dick all day everyday.
People should really do some research...

This question has only been asked 12000 times before.

For power with daily drivable street manners, keep your overlap under 7 degrees at .050".

For reliability, run a cam lobe that you can run beehive springs (like PAC 1518) or lighter duty duals (like Patriot Golds).

226/230 .598/.600" 112LSA or 230/230 .600/.600" 112LSA ground with EPS lobes is what you'll like.

i'm a4, also i wouldn't want a cam where i'd have to switch out springs every x amount of miles. i just want a cam that would work good and give good power as a cam only and oilpump, springs, pushrods and exhaust

Im switching from a 240/244 to something like Pat said(226/230) from EPS. Not cause of trends-but cause its my DD and the MS3 or the other was way too much. For my 347. I like the single spring and a longer spring life.

You won't find the cam in any catalog or any website. It's one of my custom cam designs using the Endurance lobes from EPS. Do a search for "EPS lobes" on this forum and you will see lots of threads with cams made with these lobes. Many around the same duration. They work incredibly well, are fairly quiet, and are easier on springs than catalog lobes.

If you want one, click the cam help link in my signature.
