Default How much power has anyone made from 241 heads

I am doing a rebuild on my 2002 z28. I had a lifter break and got metal shavings in the oil. So while i got it at the motor apart i figured i get a set of 243's but the funds are running low. Real low. The machine shop that i am taking it to is going to port and polish the stock 241 head for nothing. The best price of all. lol.
I am just wondering how much power anyone has made with these heads????
and the mods.

I'd say it depends on how good of a port job they do for free, Probably wont be the BEST porting ever. I'd say the average for most HP on 241's is around low 400's rwhp. There are so many variables though, thats a rough guess.

If they are done right, with supporting mods there is no reason you can't break 450. The key though is if they are done right.

Might I suggest getting them milled for higher compression. Like the others have said it really depends on how the heads get ported. Back in the day working the stock castings were all you could do and many head porters did very well.

I have an old set of Absolute Speed 853 CNC and hand blended heads from 2005. That with a mild cam got me numbers similar to the avg. aftermarket stage 2 head.

Also, I've seen 450+ with ported 241's and a big 240 duration cam, ls6 intake.

I made 466-470 on a set I hand ported, with the stock VJ a few years ago, with the SS cam and a fast78 I ported.
Made 440 on a set of 853 I did a VJ and good blend. but 90% stock port. LS6intake, Both had 1 7/8 american racing headers, and streetsweeper cam.

I'm making 420rwhp with a 226/230 cam, LS6 intake, and stage1 TEA 241's. I'm swaping cams soon for something alittle bigger, hopefully I should be at 450rwhp soon

Some one who knows what they are doing can make your 241's flow very well. The biggest part is matching cam and heads. Making sure that your valve train set up is what will optimize your cam. Also intakes are very important. You get something like a FAST it will optimize the flow of air to your heads and to the cylinders. Again there are a lot of factors when making hp just make sure that it is the correct set up for your needs.

Thanks everone for the info. My car made 400rwhp with a trex cam and some simple bolt ons thru a 6 speed and 10 bolt. The trex cam is gone and i am getting a custom cam from comp. i would like to see around 420 or so. i figured it was doable but just wanted to know how much power poeple was making.

No it is not. A ls6 head has a 243 casting. A 241 casting is a ls1 head.
