383 build so im building a procharged 383. using epp cam and stock 317 heads. im getting all callies compstar crank and rods. pistons im using either wiesco or diamond. what cc piston should i go with? also for a 383 its a 4.00 stroke and 4.125 connecting rods correct? |
you need to match up your dishtop pistons to your cc's that'll be in the head. my suggestion call one of the sponsors like texas speed or scoggen dickey and talk to them about the build and ask if they can help you with the CR choice. it comes down to do you want to run high boost on pump gas and be safe (with some meth injection) or do you want to run low boost on stock compression. here's an example i'm buying a 402 forged iron block from SDPC and i'm gettin -15cc dishtop pistons because with my 67cc heads i'll achieve 9.5 to 1 compression for my S/C build. good luck to you |

You should read the 383 build article in GM high Tech Mag. Some great info. |

Might be talking about this article? : http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ild/index.html It's a 4 or 5 parts series. I'm putting together a 383 right now and there's some good info here. |
Thanks for the quick reply. |
If your building a motor why use 317 heads? Unless you already have them i would rather use LS6 heads if on a budget.... Alot of people use 317 heads to lower the compression of a stock motor... But if your building it use the pistons to choose the compression not the heads. Useing LS6 heads will give you more options in the future if you ever wanted to upgrade your heads to say AFRs or TFS... .02 |
