Lower compression + Decent sized cam's Hey Everyone, Ive got a 232/234 .595/.598 112LSA Cam, that im thinking id like to use in my LS1. LS1 is a forged piston 347, -4cc with ported 317 heads (Was setup to be a future boost motor) so its compression is approx 9.35:1 I searched and didnt really find a good answer for this, but will i still see good hp/tq with this cam and the lower compression? I figure the motor will see 10k in this form then will eventually get its boost. Appreciate the help |
You will still pick up a decent amount of power but the motor will seem really sluggish because of the lack of compression. The torque number will also suffer a little bit because of the compression. If you can, throw some 243 casting heads on there to get some compression back in the motor and then move back to the 317s once you throw the boost on it. |
+1 for the least expensive fix. Next up from there would be some 5.3's, but you'll be down a bit some power unless you score some ported ones cheap. |
