Default Looking to get the New AFR 215 HEADS to replace Patriots in my C5.

Went to get springs replaced and found out my CAM was bad, had 1 bad valve, and the lifters as well.. I know, I know.... A long story, but it is what it is.

Have a 2001 C5 Auto with 29K Miles. See sig for mods, also no CATS, different Cam as shown directly below.

So I got a New CAM close to the specs of a G5X2 (234/240 .598/.608 114LSA).

My CAM came in TODAY from COMP. After they got into my car a little more, they called me to share with me that my heads were shot!! They had holes in them and all kinds of issues. It would have cost $900 to repair them and they were $1,000 PATRIOT Heads. NOT bashing Patriot at all. I did get some of their first sets that weren't THAT GOOD at the time.....

I knew My HEADS were Crap AND I had them fixed/repaired after my engine blew several years ago. So, I already KNEW they didn't look pretty but I thought functionally, gthey worked sufficiently. I had The First Sets of the LQ9 Heads from Patriots around 2005-2006 ish... The 59CC ones.

SO Now I need new heads!:*****:

It sucks, but I KNEW that was always something that was BAD on my car. Talked to AFR about my set up and they recommended the AFR 215's over the 205's. The 225's are TOO Much for my set up and I would lose low end HP/TQ.

They run APPROX $2560 With the DUAL Valve Spring upgrade I need for my slightly aggressive Cam. My other option is to get a set of LS2 heads off a Vette with low miles that the shop has for $700. Including springs of course, etc etc. They have several take off heads and offered that as a cheaper alternative but I would lose some Ponies of course....................

I hope these are worth the extra money. What do you think?

You get what you pay for!

Going with the AFR heads, especially the new style 215's, will do wonders for your head/cam combo and power band!

I'm jealous, been running the AFR 205 heads for 5 years now and love them! I'd like to switch to the 215's, but cant dump that kinda of money into it since I already have a great setup.

Mike, 205's Rock! AND are proven. I am just getting these because they are out. They might be just a bit better for MY application, but those AFR's will do you well and you wouldn't gain much if anything probably swapping.

BUT it always is FUN to get the latest and greatest!

A-Men to that!

I forgot to mention, I had Tony Mamo do his hand porting on my 205's about 2 years ago. No complaints.

You will be pleased with the results I'm sure.

Have you planned for the larger intake or have you already done that?

those are some great heads you can also try the 220 as cast TFS heads with a trunion upgrade to your stock rockers...and hook up with Shane from thunder for a shim kit to get the geometry right...they go for like 1700 shipped with free milling and .650 lift springs...rpm might still have a special that included free pushrods too...

these will give alot better results over your patriots...

there is a ton of options good luck deciding

Im wondering what the PTV is like on the AFR 215's compared to the TFS 215's? Simplistically, how much cam can one get away with with these milled to 59cc on a stock 346 ?

Cool. I mean I didn't want to drop $2,500 + on heads after I just spent $1G geting an oil leak and N2O gauges fixed. I also got upgraded Valve Springs cause of my CAM.

Heck, the reason I originally went back in after the 1st time was to get new springs just to be safe since mine had 20K.

Then, I found out I needed a CAM, Lifters and a had a Bad valve. SO In that CASE. HEADS was a logical cholice. I also have a New CAM that came in before I knew I needed the heads etc etc, so My 234/240 .598.608 114LSA is waiting to go in as soon as the heads get here. I am too broke to buy a FAST INTAKE and New TB right now. I already have an LS6 Intake as all 2001 Vettes got the New LS6 Intake Manifold that year.

The BILL is not going to be fun at all. I am keeping my car forver and it only has 29K on it and is a 2001. I WISHED I got a 6 Speed, but oh well for now I will be very content having a low 11 second street car tht can hit 10's on the nitrous.

With the New Heads, CAM, and everything working right I bet my car is going to be pretty fast. I HOPE it is noticeably FASTER!!! It Better Be!

SO, I decided to just get GOOD HEADS once and for all and get rid of the crap Patriots. (No Offense to Patriot, but I had some of the first sets from 2005 and they weren't that good and I think caused a lot of issues I had, but know they are good budget heads and Gunnar was always super cool)

The 215's were suggestred to me by AFR because I went through all my mods and this was the best heads for my Application. the 225's were too much and I would have lost Low End. I have a somewhat aggressive CAM (for an AUTO) and a Yank SS3600 Stall so I am not down too low that often anyway, although, I LIKE the Low End and Mid Torque vs being a Top End Queen.

These 215's are derived from the 205's so they have a good foundation to draw from and enhance which is what Tony apparently did with these.

Can't wait till they get here. It was 4-5 weeks!
