Default head and cam combo question

i have a 99 camaro ls1 and i was told i can switch to a set of 5.3 truck heads and up the valve size and have them ported and that will up my compression and help alot is what ive been told but ive been wanting to put a ms4 cam by texas speed in my car would that be ok with those heads still ?

With the 59-58cc I would have to lean towards, no. Unless of course you were willing to flycut then sure. Or if you are already running a forged reliefed piston. But yes, it will up your CR probably to about 11.1'ish. 93 octane all the way from there!

flycutting is a must if youre running a cam over .600 lift on 5.3 heads

Lift isnt the determining factor in that.

I just ordered a set of PRC 5.3 heads and Torquer v3 (.643 intake lift) from TSP. I had them mill the heads as much as possible while leaving adequate PTV clearance. They said they should be able to get down to around 60 cc chambers (.015 - .020 milled).

so how big of a cam can i go without piston work ?

i just ordered a ms3 from texas speed with their stage 2.5 5.3l heads and they said they will work without piston notching

so why not go with the stage 3 LS6 heads other than price it seems ok to me
