Default 2002 camaro sump cornering concern?

how good is the stock 2002 camaro sump at controlling oil surge at high cornering speeds? been looking in to dry sumping it

In a 02 SS it has an LS6 pump. Me you take it out and have it ported. If your car sees the track once in a while GM does say you can put up to 7.5Q worth of oil in the LS1 for a weekend track event only not for DD. If you are going to do this all the time and designate your car for track use only then go with the dry sump.

Well, a dry sump would cost some serious cash. What kind of driving are you looking to do? As the previous poster said, sometimes it's good enough to just run an extra quart of oil in the sump.

A windage tray and an Accusump is the "standard" roadracing setup... you'll see this much more in LSx-swapped cars rather than F-bodies, cause really, who road courses an F-body lol.

And Accusump setups are available all over the place, but basically you'll need the accumulator (the Accusump itself), an oil bypass block (usually they screw or bolt on at the oil filter) and a valve to open and shut the line going to the accumulator.

I use an Accusump, best insurance i've had.

Filling the crankcase to full + 1 quart has gotten me through Lime Rock, Indy, Memphis, Pocono Long, and NJMP Lightning. I don't race, these are just track days, but it has worked well.

Next engine will have a baffle tray upgrade such as the Improved Racing piece just for good measure.

thanks my engine is in an rx7 fd and gets used quite hard on the track with toyo r888 tyres so i was interested in knowing how good it was

Drill the lifter trays, lower side w/ (2) 1/2" diameter holes, side by side, so that the oil drains back to the pan quicker. Run 6 qts in the pan + the oil needed to fill a pre-oiler. Use a pre-oiler, Accusump or other & an F-body pan w/ even a stock baffler & windage tray is fine. Guys are whining about dry sumps causing oiling failures all the time, in the road racing section. So, dry sumps are not the cure all. I use (2) cheap 1 qt. bladderless pre-oilers w/ drilled lifter cups & don't lose noticable oil pressure during hard braking or high g turns. Oil cooler is a must, as well. Stock F-body pan.
