Default question about afr 205 heads and piston to valve clearance

is there any difference in the chambers of an afr head and a ls6 head that would allow for more piston to valve clearance with the afr heads? I know I cant run a ls6 head milled to 59cc with my current cam but Im wondering if it would be possible with an afr 205 head? The smallest chamber I could run on a ls6 head would be 62cc.

Yes, they have more valve drop. You might find the numbers with a search on valve drop. I used to have them but can't find them.

IM thinking with the 59cc afrs on a stock block will clear up to like a 232 duration cam. I have seen a few posts were people have had up to like a 232 or 234 duration cam.

Not based on my experience. Mine is 224/228 and it was below minimum on the intake at 60cc and using a 0.040" Cometic. Yours would likely be tighter. All depends on how comfortable you are running with a tight setup. Other guys may be running a 232, but I would bet they never measured.

Good post (as usual) Bob....

Honestly you guys need to breeze thru this post linked below.....its essentially covering the same thing (check my response post #15), not to mention is worth a chuckle towards the end!

Cheers,
Tony

PS....And to be more specific, the AFR head had about .005 - .010 more valve drop at the same chamber volume than an LS6 head.....not much more but a little and if your already on the ragged edge the slight additional clearance of course helps.
