The car definitly could use some more low end HP but I usually launch around 4k and gets going quickly. For a monster cam, it does have some cam surge and it's not the most streetable cam out there(I don't mind it at all). I also don't DD my car as it's more of a night/weekend toy. Take what you will from that.
Are you auto or manual?

What is your track times?

I have not been to the track with the car as of yet. It's a 6 Speed. Compared to my Lt1 car that ran 12.30's, I think it would have a 11.80 in it with a street tire full weight. I'm still working out an oil leak problem from the back plate and hope to be at the track in last September, early October.

That makes sense. I should have some solid numbers in the next few weeks.

a custom cam can have whatever characteristics u want it to have hence the word custom..my last set up was a ms4 cam only ls1..and it was fun drive and race..i have a
m6 and 342s the cam realy could have used more gear but i was still a beast from 3800 to 7000..i had my fare share of races against cam only maros and birds as well as stockish cobras..i was on the winning side of about 70% of them..knowing what i know now i would go with a cam in the 230s range and get a good set of heads instead of going donkey dick..just my .02....goodluck

Depends on your definition of violent

Get a cam to match and best complement your other mods and you will be faster. It is not about peak HP it is about the most average HP through your intended RPM range.....

Any plans on installing nitrous later down the road? I've been very happy with the t-Rex. I was in the same boat at one time. These cams aren't slower than a stock cam really, they just pick up the majority of their power 4500 and up. I have stock gearing for now and I daily drove it for over a year.

My vote would be buying the heads and cam together. I went cam only knowing that I'll move up to a bigger cubic inch motor eventually.

nitrous, maybe a fitty shot max. several small shots = more wins, less ls1 death.

i just cannot buy heads! too much $$.. balla on a budget baby... with any cam only ill be way faster than i am now..correct. like as in no comparison to stock.. right?? is this a realistic expectation for cam only?
heads just give u a little better flow, less delay? $2,500 for heads to get 15 hp's more is alot of $ per hp. idk, im sure most of u guys after that last statement think im a monkey.. do heads really make a worth $2,500 sick difference?? stunna..

Big cam and the wrong heads equals LS1 death either way. I pulled my old heads and replaced them with newer heads from an 01 SS and never had a problem with piston to valve clearance. Aftermarket heads weren't worth the money to me. You'll keep the cam in it's power range much better with 4.10s or 4.56s, but they aren't necessary to daily drive.

A cam only car is good on the budget, but don't expect a crazy hp number without heads. I'd say any of the big cams discussed here will put down around 360 to 410 or so depending on mods, transmission, and rear-end (cam only). I'd say those numbers change to around 400 to 450 with the right heads.

Edit: big cams also like high rpm's. To get everything out of the cam, it would take a tune to raise the rev limiter and most likely a built bottom end. The higher you rev a big cam, the more power it will generally make. I've seen dyno sheets were there was NO peak number, it just kept rising until the rev limiter.

Mine has 150,xxx miles with 3.42 gears. The motor blowing depends on how high you rev it, correct installation, etc. Smaller cams can make similar power though. Stock heads work with the t-Rex, not sure about the polluter or other cams such as the ms3. If I were you, I'd call a sponsor and talk to them about what you're looking for. They can help discuss a cam only build and give you answers as far as typical power gains and supporting mods.

Or you can search the forum for a year doing homework on cams like I did lol.

custom cam gets my vote.. i have a pat g custom cam and love it. I need a good dyno tune but she pulls all throughout. This whole VIOLENT thing you speak of on stock 241 heads... doesn't exist in my book.

Call Geoff at EPS. He FLAT OUT knows how to spec a cam and his lobes are pretty easy on the valvetrain but make great power.... I don't think many people would think my A4 403 would be knocking on the door of 500rwhp with a cam in the high 230's (smaller than a Polluter) on the intake side....

Def Guy I bet its sick now!
To the OP ever look into anything like the F13, G5X2 or anything of the sort?
I have a mid 220's cam and it has held its own against some bigger cammed cars, ones with a very popular cam on this board like the *cough* Ms4...

^Yup, I've rode shotgun in that car and my wife in the back and pulled on a H/C (Dart 220's and MS4) SS. I <3 small cams, lol.
