Default Oil pump relief valve

For those who have swapped springs on the oil pump, is the actual valve itself supposed to drop out? I noticed on my SLP pump, the spring came out but the valve remained inside the bore. Just wanted to know if this was normal. I am trying to determine why my stock oil pump failed so I opened it up to check where the valve was then I compared it to the SLP pump. Both pumps had the valve remain inside the bore even with the spring out. Normal?

Should fall out, if there's some "gumming up", it may need some help. Clean, clean clean!
