Default Getting ready for Spartan 228/232 cam swap, graph attached...

UPDATE : Cam install is done, video posted at the end of this thread. Dyno tune & results/comparisons coming early next week!

I’ve been reading & reading & reading in preparation for a cam swap for the last month or so. I’ve looked at more graphs & read more opinions than I care to mention. After all my research & knowing my goals, I've decided on a cam spec’d by Spartan Performance (Damian). I’m keeping this as basic as possible & just trying to add a little “fun” factor to my daily driver without going too crazy or having to rev it to the moon to make power.

As you can see, I graphed out the before/after Spartan Dynojet sheet found in another thread & overlayed it on my bolt-on Dynojet #'s. Keep in mind, my car is a stalled A4 & the before/after cam car is an M6. The bolt-on M6 torque & HP are consistently higher than my A4 under the curve, but peak HP & everything else over the curve is just about identical.

Anybody think I can even get close to 400 RWHP with this cam on my stalled A4 (cam only M6 did 409 as you can see)? I do have 853 heads rather than 241 like this M6 had, but I will also be adding an SLP UD pulley & a ported throttle body at the same time. I'd be happy with 375 (43 over current bolt-on’s), but I’m very interested to see how this thing will do in my car. I’ll make sure to post the results when I get this done in a few weeks.

Have you talk to Damian and ask him what he think about this cam for your setup? I think he put this cam in A4 cars.

That's a great size cam IMO, would really shine with a set of PRC243s or better. 6200rpm peak power, great midrange and low end. My Tr224 114 can't flow enough for my heads.

With full boltons and that cam on a locked A4, I see 385-395rwhp.

It's gonna be tough to hit 400rwhp cam only in an A4 with this size cam, but dyno #'s really don't matter when it comes to a stalled Auto. Where it makes power matters, but we all know that A4's aren't dyno queens.

I wouldn't chase a magical 400rwhp #, because more than likely you'll be disappointed. I'd be looking for a nice flat TQ curve, fun factor on the street, and 11 sec track times. THAT, will be easily obtainable with this camshaft.

Yank's website looks like it reccomends the ss3600 for this cam but the ss3200 would be a better converter for a DD and should still be fine.

Oh yeah, I'm not expecting 400 by any means with this size cam. Like I said, I'll be happy with 375. Even then, I know it's just a number. Now, an 11.xx timeslip, that would be awesome! This isn't a race car, but I would like to take it to the track at least once & see what she'll do.

What it comes to Auto cars, Stomping *** at the track is the measuring stick that you should be concerned about.

3K-3600 will do the trick.

I've got this cam (on Cam motion lobes, .612 lift) in another car with a Yank SS3600 and it HAULS ***.

I think you will be able to hit the 375rwhp with that cam I see you have a 3200 converter that will work good but also put some gears 4.10!!

the guy damian is talking about with this cam setup on a ss3600 ls1 is me you don't need a 4:10 gears thats overkill for a a4 i have 3:73s and thats more than enough my car is easily daily driveable i don't dd it cause i have a beater but i could if i want to, my goal was to have a dd car that would haul butt, and be street friendly, this goal was achieved threw this setup i havent gotten a chance to get it dynoed but its fast none the least, put it like this since having this setup i've beat a ls2 c6 and a ls1 heads cam gto i wasnt the driver in this race, trust me you'll be happy and the ss 3600 is very streetable i hardly know it there.

I think he is saying it may be overkill for a cam only setup. Then again I could wrong.

And for the record, I do not "sell" this cam or any cam for that matter. You can order these specs directly through your favorite cam vendor right here on LS1tech.

I've got one almost identical on it's way. Curious to see what you think about this cam.

I hoping for good results. I'm likely going to pair this cam with either some Patriot 5.3s or some PRC 5.3s.
