PP heads and oil consumption
has anyone else experienced drastic oil consumption with PP heads? the only variables i changed on my motor were the heads and cam and i had not experienced chewing oil like this in 30,000 miles. Now with in 1000 miles i went through 2 quarts
IN my other thread people have mentioned that there was a problem with the PP heads and oil, what was the remedy, I am about to tear down the motor and remove these heads

Just curious but how many times after the install was the car taken to redline? If you were having tuning done and running alot of RPM's this may have compounded a small oil consumption problem and made it seem worse. I am not trying to suggest the heads aren't the problem, b/c 2 quarts in that short of miles would burn my *** as well.

I've had 6 sets of patriot heads on my car and have ran them for a total of 28,000 miles and my car doesn't use oil now and never did with any set I had. I run mobile one 5w-30 with a M1 filter and change it every 3,000 miles. I've never added oil to my car. Have you done a leakdown test on your car?

Mine smokes like a freight train at WOT only above 5800 rpm. I can make 6-8 ¼ mile runs and be down a ¼ -1/2 qt of oil.
In normal everyday driving there is no oil consumption.
If the car is running rich at WOT the oil consumption seems to be worst.

You know a little about that don't you Mike?? LOL! Even a "pretty close" tune is dangerous on a 11.5 to 1 engine.

Yeah I burned 2 quarts of oil in 2 miles so mine was a tad worse.
Im really worried about tuning now and never realized how detrimental it could be to an engine until I saw mine after detonation. I think mine was more from detonation at part throttle and maybe a little at WOT but either way it does not take long to toast a motor if it is detonating.

What cam did you switch to? Maybe that has something to do with it. I burn lot o' oil at WOT after my cam swap. (I used new valve seals, etc...) Absolutely no smoke during normal driving, quite a bit at WOT.

I just finished replacing all the valve seals on my new PP LS6 heads because I was burning 1/2 quart in 150 miles. It was smoking bad. Found a couple cracked valve seals that weren't installed correctly. I replaced them with Viton seals instead of the teflon one's that PP uses. What a major PITA job that was!!!
You need to pull all the plugs and see what cylinders are sucking the most oil. If it is just a couple of the seals, you'll have a black oily spot on the plugs, or the plug will be very black compared to the rest. Replace the valve seals on those cylinders. Teflon seals are brittle and prone to cracking if not installed with care.
