best street 400 rwhp cam?
I'm looking for a cam that will get me close to 400 whp with just a cam and bolts ons. my motor is a stock 99 ls1 with ls6 intake manifold and long tubes. will have no accessories and will be a daily driver. so I'm looking for a good street cam. and its on a 6 speed Manuel trans.

IMO for a DD, something in the high 220/23x duration on a 112 LSA. No need for a donkey dick cam. Max IMO I would be looking at is 230/236.
My VRx4 which is 228/230 @112 Made 385 RWHP in a 6 speed but I have a 3" Steel DS and a Moser 12 bolt and a HEAVY Tru Crap Diff. I wager if I tossed in a stock Aluminum/10 bolt combo, I would be right @ 400 RWHP. I have a lid, dynatech headers w/ Catted Y pipe matted to a Corsa Exhaust. The car has excellent manners, phenominal under curve power which is a blast to drive on the street. Makes over 350 RWTQ @ 3k which is better then most D.D. cams like MSx, TRex etc etc

Definitly possible. Typical Heads/cam F-bodys make around 435 with supporting mods so 400 cam only shouldnt be too hard. My best advice would be to conact Ed at Flowtech. He will point you in the right direction. Tell him what your goals are and that you plan on DD'ing the car.

However, Based on your current mods, and if you plan on keeping the ls6 manifold and stock heads, you might want to look into a reverse split cam.

I had a Fast 90/90 (ported) on this car but performance was hurting (should have left it UN ported by Vengence). Either I will do a different H/C on this car and pray the bottom end never grenades (46k on the clock), or toss a 100-150 shot on and just have fun. We will see.

A 228/232 113lsa cam should just make it to 400rwhp with good bolt-ons and have great drivability too but it is mostly the tune that will make the car great on the street. Shouldn't have to rev to the moon either, maybe 6400rpm redline. 224/224 cams like the tr224, 224R are around 375rwhp so you would need to go bigger than that at least.

Lunati has a relatively new line out for LS engines. They seem to take forever to get info out to the masses about new things, don't know if it's for good, bad, or indifferent reasons.
http://www.lunatipower.com/Media/Doc...0LS%20Cams.pdf
I picked this one with help from the tech department with matched springs and pushrods: 2200 - 6800 CAMSHAFT, GM LS VHRX278-12X 278/282 adv. 227/231 @.050 .651/.651 112/108 LSA/ICL
I haven't found anyone running any one of these yet, but I'm hoping to fire mine in the next few weeks.

But Ultimately, you need to look at under curve power as the powerband is often shifted forward.
Im posting this as I have a few who put some blower spec'ed grinds into motors and really suffered until that blower set up was installed. So that was interesting to me.

I had the ms3 cam in my dd. I was on stock ported heads and intake with all the supporting mods and I made 408rwhp with 380 rwtq through a m6. Oh by the way that was on a mail order tune from texas speed. I'm sure the car would have made close to 430 if it would have been dyno tuned. I loved this cam. If your not familer with the ms3 its 602/609 lift with 238/242 for duration mine was 112 lsa.

Typical Blower Cam grinds will make less power then it's N/A Equivelent @ a given rpm range but like said would make good power. 70 HP is a major jump, but then again cams like a out of the box 02+ Z06 cam is a really decent grind that works well with a FI set up.

before they install the kit n loose power, maybe who did it will chime in. If I didn't already have my kit i would retune it n post my results but I'm not in that boat right now

a Better question would also be what is a max lift that can be accomplished with the stock bottom end and not having to flycut the pistons for valve reliefs? while having these crazy .6++ lifts not really looking to fly cut or end up bending up valves

Dont know about a MS4 for a daily driver. Read on here that it can wear out the springs really fast - Magic Stick V.4 239/242, .649"/.609. Lot of lift and you will need some really good springs - PRC dual valve springs would work. Plus on a stock setup you will have to flycut the pistons.

Duration and ICL really determine PTV since max lift occurs near BDC.
The MS cams and Trex are about as big as you go with an unmolested motor but they are not even close to DD friendly w/o supporting mods like gears/stall IMO.....
Like stated a high 220-low 230 cam can be DD friendly with a good tune. I could have easily DD my old 230/234 cam in my 346.
