GM HEADGASKETS

im building a 02 ls1 block and using 5.3 stage 2 heads. what head gaskets should i use? should i just get the head gaskets or a head gasket set? are there any differences in gaskets from 2000- 02?

Re: GM HEADGASKETS

Some, maybe most of the '02 cars got multi-layer steel gaskets. These are easier on clean up but not nescessary. The stock GM gaskets ('98-'01)are fine.

Re: GM HEADGASKETS

The 02 gaskets are .060 thickness, while the pre-02's are .054 thickness. This would be mean that using the 02 gasket would bring your valves slightly farther away from the pistons, and you will lose a little compression. The 02's are clean and easy, but I would run the pre-02's because they won't hurt compression..
