Default What "Cam" for AFR 205 heads int Fbody A4

hi

my friend has a 2002 Trans am Ws6 whith stock A4
itīs completely stock except for long tubes headers.....

and he just purchased AFR 205 heads 66cc whith dual springs and ti retainers for .650" lift

And we are looking out for a "big " Cam for it and then what stall converter is recomended}
iīve been searching here on the forum, and looks like 224.228@114 and 228.230@114 people are using a lot

But the thing is the guy is ready to mille the heads down and flycutting is not a problem.
He wantīs rough idel, needs to be noticed
and much power and Tq offcourse , but not too lazy down stairs itīs A4 like said before

Saw Trex, but isnīt that lazy on the low rpms...
i was looking at the TSP site earlier
Torqer v2 looks nice 232.234.595.598, and maby torqer v.3 ??

whatīs recomended for him

heīs running stock intake, but Fast 102 is on the plan.

thanks

I would talk to Tony Mamo about the cam. He will lead you in the right direction and make sure you get what you want out of your application.

The best thing to do at this point is to get a torque converter 3600 to 4000 stall then worry about a cam

Somewhere within this range should work good for cams:
226/228 112lsa, 226/230 112lsa, 228/228 112lsa, 228/230 112lsa, 228/232 112lsa
For the TC 3600-4000 range..

good advice

I have a 228/228 112lsa and .024 milled AFR 205's. Its enough to get noticed with a loud exhaust. 112 or 110 lsa will have a nice rumbly idle.

Don't just throw the biggest cam you can find into it, unless you don't care much for drivability and power under the curve.

Now for a TC, I like big ones lol, I'm running a 4000 and 3.91 gears, good matchup for destroying tires.

hi

thanks for replying
all comments are good

he got now stock gears...
and 3600-4000 stall is what he is looking at not higher and not lower
he would like to have compression around 11.2-11.4 using 92 oct gas

this guy is looking for mean as power, rough idel but it needs to have a bit of driveability too....

If he's specific, then talk to someone that will spec out something specific. Mamo or Pat-G. Both guys have been around the LS world long enough to trust that you're going to get what you want. Off the shelf stuff might get him somewhat close to what he wants, but getting a custom grind spec'd out by someone that has done this hundreds of times will likely get him exactly or extremely close to what he wants. Good luck with the build.

Get a custom spec cam first, then talk to Yank about your cam, setup etc and he will provide you with the right TC....

As for the TC itself, I like high stalls as well. I have a PT4200 thats replacing my SY4000 laying in the garage ready for my new motor....

go with atleast a 3800 size stall. Just give tony mamo a call. There are many combinations out there with the AFR 205. i think the biggest cam you can run is a 228/232 size cam without flycutting under those AFR.

Talk to Tony! He is the man behind the 205s, and he can tell you what to run.
