862 or 706 or 243's? Let me give you a little summary of my intentions on this engine build. It is going in to a 1985 Corvette. My target is 350Hp min..anything over is a plus but not a requirement. I am doing a "cheap" engine build to get this vette on the road this year. Later on if i get bored (no pun intended) then i most likely will do a 6.0L project. I just picked up 2 engines. 2002 5.3l out of a tahoe with 862 heads 2004 5.3l out of a silveradao with 706 heads I am going to have one of them bored to 5.7l std specs and reuse crank and rods. Im up in arms as to which way to go. Id like to go the cheap route on the heads. I would have either OEM truck heads rebuilt (862,706) with 2.00" intake valves OR pick up a set of 243's used and have them rebuilt. So the main driver in this plan is will the truck heads get me to the 350Hp or above mark with a ls6 intake installed and i would like to go with a cam that has a little bit of note to it. Not too nasty just enough to get attention when i pull up to a stoplight. Cam recommendations for this effect? I am thinking about going with the sealed power speed pro cast pistons with the following specs: Brand Sealed Power Manufacturer's Part Number ZH868CP Part Type Pistons Product Line Speed-Pro Hypereutectic Pistons Summit Racing Part Number SLP-H868CP UPC 614046630130 Bore (in) 3.898 in. Bore (mm) 99.000mm Piston Style Flat top, with no valve reliefs Piston Material Hypereutectic aluminum Compression Distance (in) 1.328 in. Wrist Pin Style Press-fit Pin Diameter (in) 0.945 in. Piston Ring Thickness 1.50mm x 1.50mm x 3.00mm Quantity Sold individually. Notes DurOshield® coated piston skirt. What kind of compression ratio should i be targeting? I have all time access to E85 here in central IL/IN. Any comments, questions, ideas, warnings, advice is welcome! Remember though.... CHEAP ROUTE without sacrificing the 350Hp Target using a 5.3l block bored to 5.7l. |
