Default What's the maximum lift Comp 918 springs can handle?

My car has comp 918's in it and I'm going to go with a bigger cam. I'd like to get one that is like .595 lift.

I've heard that 918's are good for .600 lift; but would like some input.

What do you guys think and what is the biggest lift cam people have run with the 918's?

Thanks.

I've heard of up to .620" lift on 918s. I ran them with a .599" lift cam for a very short time with no spring issues.

Comp rates the springs for 600, but reccomends them for cams around the size of .609, you can get away with running them to about max of .605 to .609. This is where coil bond begins to become a factor. I would change them more often if you are using a large lift cam.

At 0.600 lift you should plan on changing your 918 springs like you do your underwear.

There is more then just lift that factors in, I would change springs every 10k miles if run hard, though. That is like a year's worth of driving for me, like 2 months for other guys.

If I go with a cam with like .581 lift, would I have any issues? I don't want to be changing springs as it is a total pain in the butt.

I guess it is easier on the vette; but I still don't like the idea. Right now I have an ls6 cam and want something bigger with a better lope.

with a .581 cam it will prob be ok. Just make sure you stay on top of changing them every 10k.

Does it also not depend on if you have a head shop set up the springs properly or if you just drop them in?

It somewhat depends on the install heigth but not that crutial unless you are running a spring at it's max.

with springs..you want atleast .060" before you get to coilbind...that being said and going by the spes of the 918 spring you can run that spring on a cam that has a lift of .655"...but like others have said it also depends on the ramp rates of the cam on how long the springs will last

We run the TSP 231.237 camshaft with 598 595 lift on them without any issues. You could also look at the Manley springs, we've run them to 598 also

Does the duration have any affect, or is it just lift?

For example, I have a MMS 229/229 575/575 with the 987's and YT's. I Have read about the probs with that combo and was thinking about switching to 918's. Will this be ok?

Your cam I a little milder on the lift than most. I'd say dyno and look for valve float. If you do not have any don't change.
