Default Loses oil pressure after a few minutes of driving

I found a possible dailly driver 99 LS1 that loses oil pressure after a few minutes of driving.....it doesn't smoke or have any knocks and the car currently has 113,000 miles on it.....what all could be wrong with it?......seems like an easy fix, i know i could slap a new oil pump in it in about three hours, but before i try to buy it, what else could it be other than the oil pump?

You need to verify pressure loss with a mechanical gauge.

Agreed. I had this issue with my 97 SS. Mechanical, it was fine. Replaced the Oil Pressure Sending Unit, and all was well.

Talk about "pucker-factor" seeing your OP at zero.....

I wouldn't buy the car unless you knew it was the sensor. If the oil pump I would personally walk since you don't know how it was driven and if pressure dropped whether damage occurred.

Definately.

There is no motor noise or smoking so idk. It seems to idle and rev ok, didnt really get a chance to drive it much yet because it needs 2 tires. While on the throttle the oil pressure looks ok, but when you let out it drops.

I will keep my fingers crossed that it is something easy like a new sensor, but I'm prepared for the worse..

While on throttle the pressure is good, let off the gas and it drops....

Sounds like your pick up tube is not connected or sealed right. Drop the pan.

Change the oil and see if it helps. I got my oil changed in my 5.0 one day at a pennzoil lube center when I was in college. I forgot to specify on the oil and by the time I got home the oil pressure would drop to zero when ever I pushed in the clutch. I took it back and had them drain the pennzoil out of it and put in Valvoline and never had the problem again.

Cleaned it up a little and put some 20w-50 in it today. Still not sure if that helped yet, I havn't had a chance to check and see if the guage is right.
