does this sound like lifter going out? and lw oil pressure with meilling 10296 does it? and also my oil pressure has been below normal, i have the meilling 10296 (high pressure high volume) that i put on when i put on my comp cam 232/236 .595/.598 112 and patriot Xtreme .660 lift springs about 30k miles ago i just did plug and wires fwiw the OP was always above 40 at idle at operating temps and even after a couple of hard pulls, now, for the past month or so it idles like in the vid., half way between 25 and 40, and the gauge is not steady, its jumpy the vids are right after an oil change with synthetic mobil 1 10w30. car has 97k on it and lifters have never been changed... and if you can tell, the OP gauge is jumpy, or not stable. my friends told me that a bad lifter, or a lifter going out can cause low oil pressure what do you guys think? help is appreciated 1. does it sound like lifter tick? 2. what about my oil pressure? http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/g...SNC00048-1.mp4 http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/g...SNC00049-1.mp4 http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/g...t=SNC00052.mp4 |
My buddy had the same issue with his meling pump, switched back to his ls6 with a shim and got his pressure back and tick was gone. But his was right after install not 30k miles later. |
yeah, i keep reading that meillings are having issues now, thinking about doing the slp dbl roller chain and slp pump, but i hope this is not a lifter, i would rather do pump and chain over lifters ANY DAY |

Have you checked the oil pressure with a mechanical guage? |
Any vids of the engine bay idling? Does the ticking sound like it's coming from under the driver side of the engine? |

Does the ticking sound like it's coming from under the driver side of the engine? my tuner took a spray bottle and sprayed water on the primaries with the engine at operating temps after i got home 1,3,5,7,6,8 immediately evaporated the water, didnt even let the water run down, it took maybe 6-7 consecutive sprays for it to even let the water start to run a lil down the primary before immediately evaporating 2,4 didnt evaporate as quickly, 4 it took two sprays for the water to "puddle" and run down the primary before evaporating, and on 2, it was in the first spray where it "puddled" and run down the primary before evaporating he thinks i have broken valve springs on 2 and 4, he called them dead cylinders, i will check this weekend or tonight or tomorrow if i get a chance |
Couple of real obvious things. 1. Verify with a mechanical gauge the pulsating you are speaking of. 2. Get rid of the ACC and AC belts when listening for noises, there are way too many things spinning to decipher a specific noise. Try to isolate through elimination. 3. Whats the condition/age of the battery? Our gauges act up with failing batteries. 4. Could be a sending unit, step one will help you figure that out. |
