Default Going rates for valve job 2.02/ 1.60

I got a few rates from local speed shops around my area (Northern VA). I had one shop tell me that it would be a flatout $385, and the seats would not have to be replaced, just cut. The shop my heads are right now said $275, then they call me back and told me the seats would have to be replaced since it's over sized and would be $500! Not sure what to do! The shop that had the flat rate of $385 is a Machine Shop only, and the other is a speed shop.

I heard the biggest size valves you can go on a ls1 is 2.02/ 1.60 without changing the seats. Is there any truth to this? What have other people been charged for the same set-up? Any help would be great. Thanks...Chris

I am going to get 2.055/1.6 valves and do the porting (cleanup the runners) myself. Merkel Racing in New York will do a 5-angle valve job, hog out the intake inserts, and backcut (30deg.) the valves for about $200 (dont have the exact prices with me)

From what they say, the 2.055 is the largest you can go.

I had 2.02/1.6 and the seats didn't have to be replaced.
