05 lq9 motor i found a 05 escalade 6.0l motor hoe do i tell if its a lq9. the guy want 1000 for it with 150000km on it. is it worth it. how do i tell if it is a lq9 for sure from 2005 what else should i check on it what head stamping nubers dhould it have. thanks for help any info apprciated.

This truck could have the 5.3L LM7 engine or the 6.0L LQ9.
Thu under hood belt routing or emissions sticker should show the engine size, assuming it's original.
If you get the vin, plug it in here and it'll tell you what engine it is:

5.3L is a stroked 4.8L
6.0L Flat top = LQ9
6.0L Dished = LQ4
If the engine is out of the truck, just look at the back of the block. It will read 4.8/5.3L or 6.0L. Pull the plug if its a 6.0L, and verify the flat top pistons.

If the engine is out of the vehicle, it's identification gets more difficult. The LQ4 and LQ9 engines were almost identical. Same blocks, same heads, same casting numbers.
The difference is the LQ9 got coated skirts and 10.1:1 flat-tops versus the LQ4 at 9.4:1 circular-dish, un-coated. The LQ9 also got different rods and floating piston pins. The LQ9 is basically a iron block LS2 with a truck intake manifold.
To ID this block, I'd suggest you find the vin etched into the block. The eighth digit for the LQ9 is N, LQ4 it's U.

Out of the first one hundred on that website, five are 5.3 engines. It was the standard engine.
So, five in a hundred is 5%, a rare bird but there are some out there. It's prudent to confirm what an engine is before plunking down cash for it.

The above is true, up until the 2005 engines. Then the LQ4 received the LQ9 rods and was truly identical to the LQ9. The skirt coatings didn't start until 2003.
