Default Who to entrust to do a custom grind cam? Futral or Ed Curtis?

My car is a 2002 Trans Am WS6 with long tubes, true duals, lid, etc. Stock 241 heads and I'm looking to be over 400rwhp and over 400rwtq. I know both are great at what they do and can get the job done, but I'd like some feedback from you guys on who you'd choose and why. I know Ed's cams are ground by Comp and Futral's cams are ground by Cam Motion. Will that make much difference? Would also love feedback from anyone who has got a custom grind cam from either one of these guys.

Both make amazing cam's that are very street friendly, I'd say flip a coin to decide honestly.

Cam Motion.

Comp cams quality control has gone to the toilet and their cams do not last.

While I've had no personal dealings with them...I'd like to mention PatrickG and/or Geoff Skinner.

I was thinking the same thing. Most well respected shops are still selling Comp grinds.

I know everyone on here loves EPS, but I really want to keep this thread about Futral and Ed Curtis cams.

Anyone had either guy custom spec them a cam?

Also, can anyone elaborate about what lobes each use? I'm sure each has their own proprietary lobes.

I would imagine those two gentlemen will tell you which lobes to use with their design.

Futral specced out the turbo cam in my 04 Silverado, I am happy with the performance and would have no issue using Futral agian. Ed over at Flowtech Inductions is very knowledgeable and could easily spec you out a cam that will either meet or exceed your needs. You honestly couldn't go wrong either way.

I don't have links. But I've got a scrap bin full of dead Comp cams. I speak from experience sir, not internet links.

Since you are the only one that has a scrap bin full, did you ever think maybe it is you? Sorry, you set yourself up for that one. Have you talked to Comp about this problem you are seeing?

Who grinds the cams for Cam Motion? How many cam mfgs are actually out there? There are many brands of cams but I'm not sure if it's like other products where only a couple of houses built all the parts.

Crower
Crane
Lunati
Comp
Isky

I think all these places actually MAKE cams. Most speed shops buy cams ground on their lobes. I noticed Crane has some killer looking LS1 grinds (240/246 .600/.600) but I can't find jack crap on Tech about them.

Maybe he's talking about flat tappet cams, and if thats the case those cams fail from lack of zinc in the oil, or improper break in. but all LS motors are roller cams, there shouldn't be any cam failure problems, or at least I haven't heard of any as well....

And if there is this so called "pile" take a pic and make sure to get the part number in there as well.

Was that directed to me? Cause I know them, just wondering who actually grinds their cams? I have his cam FWIW, just wondering who does the machine work...

Quick Reply: Who to entrust to do a custom grind cam? Futral or Ed Curtis?
