LG cams, why so expensive? Been looking into the G5x3 cam and noticed on the LG website that the cam sell for nearly $500.00. Why so expensive? Also, are LG cams ground by Comp? I'm assuming they are proprietary lobes, not the standard lobes Comp uses. |
Not sure but that would be an instant turn off for me. I would take my business to someone who uses competitive prices. If it's still going on Texas Speed was having a sale where their cams were $375. Even the EPS custom grinds are $400. |

g5x3 is a kickass cam thats why! |

Because they can. |
I looked into that cam and the price turned me away IMO eps custom is a better option not that the LG isn't a bad ass cam but i feel they just tax because they can |
The same reason SLP charges over a grand for LTs. |
i would guess because the g5x3 has been around over 10 years now and still performs. the cam price just went up within the last couple of years. i remember it being around $400 for a LONG time. |
While it might be an excellent cam, it would be near impossible to convince me someone cannot get the same or better results with a newer grind (especially a custom spec for their application) for $100-130 less. There are lots of new lobes and combo tricks. |
G5X3 is XER Comp lobes. LG has always been on the heavy price side but their products speak for themselves. Corvette tax is correct. |
If I remember correctly, the XE-R lobes were proprietary to LG Motorsports for a while, then were released to the general public (just like LSK lobes were proprietary to Lingenfelter a few years later). The G5X3 is one of the best all-around strip cams on the market. It costs more perhaps because it's magic. ;) |

I ran that cam on my old car and with AS 5.3 heads and bolt-on's it made 440. This was back in 05 right when it came out and the specs were all :secret2: Anyway yes it is just a comp XER cam, if you are dead set on that cam just get it from another vendor or comp don't pay lg's corvette prices. Don't know what you are planning on doing with the car but even with 4.10 gears in my m6 it was a little sluggish until 3500. IMO if you are looking for the best driveability and power have a custom one spec'd from pat g or eps there are better cams available now imo. |
