what do you guys think of this combo

Im thinking of a good street/strip combo and ive came up with this one. Thunder racing tru torque cam level 5. 227/239 cam with afr 205 heads milled to 57cc's , fast 92intake, yank 4000 stall,3.90 gears, and 100shot. Looking to run low 11's in the 1/4 mile.

Depending on da and race weight they should run mid 10s as long as it hooks and doesnt blow through the converter too bad.

Hell if i could reach mid 10's that would be even better. Car is stock weight also minus back seats.

That cam has a pretty big split. From what I've seen, AFR heads work better with a short split. Something like a 227/231 with a 111 or 110 LSA would be a bad ass combo. You should go custom grind to really maximize the AFR heads.

Why do the afr's work better with a shorter split cam?

Because those heads flow so good and if you've got a good, free flowing exhaust setup, then there is no need for such a large split. If your heads suck, but you have a good flowing exhaust setup, then you a larger split would be good and vice versa. From all the research I did, all the best dyno numbers and track times come from AFR heads and a cam with a smaller split; 8 at the most. I did a lot of research because I had bought some AFR 205 heads and then had cam guru, Ed Curtis, grind me a custom cam. I ended up trading the combo for a set of wheels/tires, but the guy who traded me made north of 450rwhp with the combo.

Well im glad that i know that now before i bought that cam lol. I have a free flowing exhaust kooks 1 7/8 headers and kooks o/r y pipe with borla stinger dumping. It was either that cam or g5x2 but i dont think it could fit with the heads milled down to 57cc.

G5x2 cam definatley aint fitting those AFR's milled down to 57cc without flycutting. You cam options are going to be pretty slim with 57cc without flycuttin. Your best bet is to let someone spec you out a custom cam based on your mods and goals. Everyone and their brother's third cousin will suggest EPS, but there are a lot of other good options out there too. I had great experience with Ed Curtis at Flowtech Inductions. He's a cam guru who is very familiar with AFR heads.
