Default LQ4 + LS3 heads + ZR1 cam

LQ4 + LS3 heads + ZR1 cam

Will I run into piston and valve clearance issues?

isnt the Zr1 a supercharged cam? wouldnt the duration be too quick for your application?

You need to check for yourself. If someone says youll be fine and you assume they areright. Then you startup your engine and it destroys itself, the random internet guy isnt goingto cut you a check for a new engine.....

i am pretty sure you should be ok, just make sure you run a ls2 front cover with a ls2 timing gear/sensor, because the zr1 doesnt have the cam pickup on the back of the cam that the gen 3 blocks require

As long as you install that cam dot to dot or the heads haven't been milled excessively you will have more than enough room.

Yeah you should have plenty of room. ZR1 cam is smaller than most aftermarket cams.

230 exhaust duration with a 122 lsa had me concerned with that big intake valve.

you can always use the special putty to check piston to valve clearance, you basically make 2 small ***** of putty and place on each valve. you can use the head gasket and screw in 4 bolts to keep the head on, not so tight cause once the head gasket is torqued its no good. set the valve lash on the rockers and rotate the engine to check clearance, see how the putty has reacted to the piston compressing the chamber and measure

or you can use a dial indicator to check deck height

What would the intake valve size have to do with the exhaust duration? The ZR1 cam and LS7 cam are very similar. Same duration and lift but with different lobe profile and LSA. Why run that cam when it is more headache and less HP than an aftermarket cam?

hes not referring to the size but rather the duration, how long the valve is open in relation to the piston. i think he is trying to make sure he doesnt bend a valve if he runs a longer duration cam.

I agree on the zr1 cam, you should run a higher cam meant for that engine. your better off running an N/A Cam. the Zr1 is meant for Forced Induction. the cam on the zr1 is smaller because the cam is compensating for smaller duration with the supercharger. cramming all the air in in a short period of time.

He said he was worried about the 230 duration with such a big INTAKE VALVE. The intake valve isn't on a 230 duration. It's on a 211 duration...the EXHAUST VALVE is on a 230 duration. You do know an LSX cam has 16 lobes for a reason right?

Well i had two concerns just phrased that in a confusing method.

1) large lsa with the piston chasing the exhaust valve and a 230 duration
2) That large intake valve.

You STFU lmao. I dont want to go buy parts and have to flycut pistons after the fact.

Not to mention im not cutting up those dished pistons when they are going to see some major hp.

This would be for a turbo app. I think im going to just stick an ls6 cam in it and be done.
