Default Trying to build Iron Block Ls1 with 5.3 Heads and other stock parts.

I am trying to make as much power as I can using stock chevrolet parts.

My plan is as follows.

-Bore 5.3 to 5.7 and install Ls1 rotating assembly.
-Get a mild hand port done on my 5.3 Heads (706) (just removing factory casting marks, deburring ports, etc) the guy I use for this has built over 3600 engines and has been mentioned in a few magazines he knows what he is doing)
-Have head machine for ls1 intake and exhaust valves
-Use Ls6 Intake manifold
-Use Ls6 valve springs
-Install 1.6 RR
-Figure out what would be a nice cam to compliment this build
-Install finished product and t56 into S10.

Anyways I feel as if I can get some pretty DECENT power out of this and a fun little truck, do any of you have an estimate as to how much I will make?

Maybe mid-300's if I had to guess. Basically you would have a cammed iron 5.7 with 5.3 heads. Have you looked into slightly porting a set of LS based heads instead?

Forget the 5.3s unless you fully Cnc/port them. The heads are the core of a good power producing combination.

I have read that the 5.3 heads flow exactly the same as the LS1 heads when you use the LS1 Valves but using the 5.3 heads increase compression by almost a full point which would make for great torque.

not quite.

the 5.3 heads are designed around the smaller valves. i beleive the cross sectional area and the bowl of the 5.3 heads are slightly smaller because of this smaller valve, simply to reduce turbulance in the bowl.

that is why a full CNC 5.3 head is a great choice, but a stock 5.3 head is not.

Hmmm, i emailed texas speed, to get some pricing. So many mixed opinions in so many different threads I guess.

Don't the stock heads come with 1.5 ratio rockers?

Damnit, more reading it is then. Anyone have any good suggestions for literature I could go pick up?

Thought I would finally contribute - my first post. Been lurking, running searches and reading old posts. I am working on two builds:
1. LQ4 6.0 stroker for my '65 El Camino
2. Top end kit for my 5.3 powered LM7 Tahoe

I ran across this info while running searches on head flow. It indicates stock 5.3 heads flow almost exactly the same as LS1 heads. Link

Cheers,
E

Keep reading till you reach LS6 data. Those are the ones you should be looking at.
