Default What are the absalute best single beehive springs?

I am wanting to run a 224r cam or something close. What are the best, most reliable, long lasting single beehive valvesprings I can get for this cam? I want valve springs that will not break and will go close to 100k. Like 60k and up.

What type of lift does the cam have?? I don't think you will find too many people recommending valve springs to 60k+ on a .580+ lift cam unless you don't plan on too many WOT runs...and I seriously doubt that is why you are modding your car.

PAC 1518 is a nitrided version of the 1218. Its 'rated' for .650 lift, but all that means is you can expect a certain life at that lift. If you run it with a lower lift cam you can expect the life to be higher.

I'm going to be using 1518's with a 224R as well.

They all have had failures. The PAC 1518 are a great choice.

Yup they all have deficiencies, it all depends if you let the car warm up and also how high you rev your engine, but if you have the right cam with the right springs you shouldn't have any problem.

Another vote for PAC 1518.

PSI 1511 Maxlife. I've tried them all. This is the exclusive beehive I use now after having tried them all, and they have a 0% failure rate. These springs will take .620-.630 lift without shimming. Will go upwards of .660 with different heights. This sprin is also Advanced Inductions exclusive valve spring for 90% of their applications.

Here's the company:

Like Damian said the PSI stuff is hard to beat. PAC stuff works really, really well also. It's hard to go wrong with either 2 of these spring company's, given your cam size and expected duty cycles.

I see you talking about shimming the springs at certain lifts. Would I have to shim a dual spring capable of .660 lift on a .625 lift cam?

I personally wouldnt consider pushing push any spring to 100k miles on an XE-R lobed cam. It may be small, but those lobes are pretty aggressive. Im not saying it CANT be done, as long as they are treated right, but it would still be a good idea to check them every 20-30k miles to make sure they arent losing any pressure.

Ive lost 2 sets of 918s (my fault.. I pushed them too hard, too long), so I know all too well what a broken spring does to an engine.

No spring will last if not installed properly or matched. That said, from what I've READ. (No experience, but a LOT of reading) The two mentioned here pretty much cover it. I have the PAC 1518's but have not ran the motor yet.

for that cam, the PAC 1218s should be fine.

I agree. I have also corresponded with someone inside GM and this is the spring they look to for their personal builds. I have installed several sets and they are excellent and often overlooked likely due to lack of internet hype. You need to figure out the required seat value and then shim to attain that value while keeping track of clearance to coil bind, etc.

So I could throw these in and go 50k without worrying about them correct>?

in theory yes they can go 50k probably with that cam and be fine but you should still check them at 20-30k its not worth dropping a valve and killing the motor than to take 2 hours of your time and check

I would at least pull a pair and have them checked periodically. If you want drop in and forget forever then I'd suggest staying stock.
