Default Anyone Daily a H/C LS1?

I'm curious to know who here drives their heads cam cars year round(rain snow), or at least puts 10k miles on them a year. I'm thinking like a 400wheel hp car.

I guess I just want to know what type of things to expect. Did the trans go out sooner than expected? Was it really that easy to blow the rear drag racing? Did air temperature in the winter cause a problem? Overheating in the summer, things like that.

I realize that when you add power you also add the chance of failure. Right now my car is a great DD, but before I do h/c i want to make sure that the mods don't make the car cross the line between reasonable DD and fun weekend car. Is it too much to push an LS1 to 400wheel and drive it every day no problem?

Thanks!

i have 440 rwhp and i drive it to work every friday. no problems there. in the cold you will need to let you car warm up for a min or so so the springs go through a little heat before abuse, that is it.

and in the snow i wouldnt drive this thing in stock form, your just asking for trouble

I drove my 401whp H/C/I M6 z28 year round in Chicago the first year I had it. It wasn't too bad in the snow. Car did fine. It was a pain getting stuck sometimes but that was really the only problem other than it rusting

I dd mine as its my only car. All city too and its pretty good as far as drivability. I occasionally get cam surge on low rpm take offs from a stop but thats in my tune. Gas mileage is about 15 but thats with me not babying everywhere too. As stated above, I would not try to drive it in the snow. Granted it only snows 1-2 times a year where I live, I got stuck on a hill for about an hour and slid across a bridge last time it snowed. This was just a full bolt on car then but I had bald run flat F1 Supercars on the back and 4.10s.

As far as reliability, the rear end went out on mine cruising down the interstate before the h/c swap so it can happen anytime. In the cold it runs fine once warmed up and in the heat (only gotten to about 65 deg since swap) no over heating issues yet. The trans was already built before the swap and it hasnt acted any different since.

You can drive a 1000hp car daily just remember its all in the tune, setup, and how you drive and take care of it. Things will wear out faster most likely but you pay to play.

I drive mine 1-2x a week (not in snow though). Round trip to/from work is about 70 miles. This includes driving over 100mph on the German Autobahn.

No issues. I tuned and built the car myself to be reliable. And that's exactly how she is

70,000 miles as a daily driver, 6 speed and 12 bolt. Only thing I got tired of was the roll cage. Never had a problem, 14 hour rides like it was nothing.

I have actually had [normal] people ask me, "You drive that thing every day?!" ...so (I/we) must be at least somewhat crazy.

I don't have a hard time with mine. Of course, I think the McLeod helps, along with the lazy-ish cam, AFRs, and 3.73s. I love it! Driving places is actually something I look forward to in my day!

I daily mine and its not that bad. If I knew I was going to sell my beater and daily this I would have done some things different. Cam selection would have been a lot different. Granted a 230s duration cam is great at the strip and wot but they are dogs off idle.

I can daily mine, somewhat have off and on, except in the snow. As someone else said though, I wouldn't even want to drive a stock one in snow/ice

I DD mine also. It's really not too much a difference until you get on it. It has a small surge in first gear and if you are cruising at anywhere under 1400 rpms. Other than that it is no different than stock.

I've DD mine for 3 years and put over 30k miles on it. Drive it every single day since it's all I have besides the bike but I drive it rain, shine, snow (unless it sticks), and anywhere I go. Never had a problem besides replaced the stock clutch after it went out

I sold my TBSS to raise capital for the stock market so I've been daily driving my F-Body in the northeast. I live on a private street with a pretty steep slope to reach my house. I dreaded trying to make it up the hill when there was snow on the ground but it turned out to be not that bad at all. TCS, the extra weight of the 12-bolt rear end, and BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sport A/S have all been a huge help. With traction control engaged the tires won't spin so the high horsepower hasn't been a negative factor at all. A lot of the problems people have with modified cars is crappy tunes. If the car is tuned properly I don't see a H/C car as a liabilty as a daily driver at all.

The stock trans is not gonna hold long. 4l60's don't like any extra hp over stock. Had to get my rebuilt after just bolt on's ,then again after h/c/i was installed. So kinda be prepared for a rebuilt trans when you do some major mods.
