Default Whats the going price for rebuilding bottom end?

I dropped my motor off today, 99 ls1 with 90k on it. It needs all new bearings, most likely crank ground and rods. I am going to rering it and hone it. What should I be paying for something like this? They are assembling the shortblock with the rear main seal also.

What did they tell you when you dropped it off?

Buddy of mine just had a block he had laying around honed out and assembled for about $1600. That included the forged rods and pistons

They told me they will call next week with a price. This a a reputable shop. It may not even need the rods or crank resized. It was in pretty good shape. Cam and lifters were shot though so who knows.

I am also doing ARP rod bolts.

a good shop should at least check the rod journals if you are installing ARP rod bolts. make sure they dont start any work til they quote you a price. i'd hate for you to go pick up a $2500 rebuild...good luck with it.

They are going to quote me first, I tried to get a price but he didnt know what needed to be done. I say somewhere around $1000 is reasoable. If its close to $2000, he is crazy. Parts are only like $400, rod bolts and bearings.

I had my block bored, honed, rotating assembly balanced, ARP Rod bolts, Refreshed rods for the ARP fastners, crank ground, cam bearings installed and purchased all bearings for 1300 cash. I am building the block up myself.

Do these prices include removal of the engine? This is something I might consider down the road if I ever go beyond H/C/I.

This price is for bringing a shortblock to the machine shop. I removed the engine from the bottom myself. I have a 2 post max jax lift.

I am rebuilding my 200k mile 2005 L33 5.3 And the best price I could find for everything (bearings, rings, gaskets, lifters, etc.) was 650 total which don't include machine work...also keep in mind this is for all GM replacement parts with felpro gaskets...hope this helps

If the walls don't need to be cleaned up, then don't waste 700-900 machine work in honing it to a 347. Pistons, rods, rod bolts, bearings, etc. Figure out your plans for the car in the future so you can build appropriately.

Picking mine up tomorrow from the machine shop. On the phone she said $1100 and change. I had them bore & hone with plate, polish crank, balance, assemble including bearings and ring-gap filing, install and degree cam and clean everything.

I provided new Mahle -4cc flattops, rings, scat rods with arp bolts, the cam and timing set, old crank and block.

Also had them throw some other parts in the washer and check the heads out (burned a piston and wanted to make sure valve seats were sealing properly) and clean them.

I'll post a price breakdown when/if i get one tomorrow!

I have about $2200 into the short block including the $1100 i would say. I felt it was better for my budget than a $3500 short block online, plus shipping.
