Default Want to do a engine rebuild, Questions on pistons, rods, etc.

So pretty sure my ring on my sixth cylinder is bad, (oil all over the spark plug) she still gets up and goes, but with a 127,xxx. She could use a little freshen up, I want to bore it like .20 or .30 over. What ever you guys would recommend. (this is my first COMPLETE rebuild). What pistons would you guys recommend? And how much would a rebuild with moderate to decent parts be? New rods, bearings, pistons, get the block checked out, crank checked out. And all balanced.

Is there any shops in CA you guys would recommend for this? [machining aspect, will assemble myself]

Also, Can I have some solid reputable brands for the internals of the motor? Like I said this is my first time really messing with the internals. What companies to stay away from, And some websites with some good parts?

I am expecting around 3-4K over the span of a couple months, then pull the motor and do it all at once. Any help will be appreciated, thanks guys!

I'd look into a 402 or 408, especially if you will do a lot yourself.

This is not an old school SBC; you cannot bore it that much. You can hone it to a 3.903>3.905 that is all. Contact a vendor (from list of sponsors) and shop around.
There are forged pistons as replacement like Mahle or go forged like Wiseco and 6.125 rods. Crank can be turned and reused.
From my experience, it is better just to get a built and blueprinted shortblock/longblock. I've used LME with excellent results and quality (as well as price).

Is this engine a LS1 ? If so you cant take a ls1 .020/.030 over. 3.905 is the biggest you can hone a ls1 block to witch makes and 347 with the stock 3.622" stroke crank.

wow this is a lot more complicated then my other 350.

It is a ls1, I am looking for a strong motor that will last, with high horsepower, a little street, strip machine that will last another 125,xxx+. Anymore information, or links to another site would be good. I would be willing to build my self a short block also, which ever way would be the cheapest. Thanks again guys.

If you want 125 K miles out of it my advice is to build it with parts that will last that long. That means, no fast ramp/high lift cams, something of a lazy lobe like LPE GT2-3; light valve train with proper beehive springs, not reving higher than 6300>6500 etc...
Mind you a LS motor will put out and last longer than a SBC but there are limits to everything.
Cheapest, long lasting and high Hp does not go together. This is not a magic motor and it does not perform miracles.

I'd say a simple forged 347 with a smaller 224 or 228 style cam or maybe a custom grind from PatG would work great for what your wanting. When it comes to heads/intake/TB its gonna be about what you expect to get from them & pocket depth. I'm happy with my little simple budget combo. The heads flow great for my setup & I got a good bump in CR as well. I have had mine together for 3yrs & 70k miles now. If the motor didnt have 170k miles on it total I'd say it could easily last me 100-125k miles or more.
