Default low to mid range cam that works on zo6 springs??

okay im about to start my engine build and going stock bottom end, 5.3 ported heads, zo6 springs .550, Ls6 intake, and becuase this is in a s-10 truck i cant run headers, but will have true duals free flowing, i want a cam that makes low to mid range power on the A4 trans, also i plan on adding nos system in the future.

thanks for any input anyone has!

I bought a 216/220 Comp and they told me 2002 Z06 springs would work. Basicaly you want to stay in the 230 lift range on the cam.

I wouldn't run a TR220 on LS6 springs. Just my 2 cents.
The Comp 216/220 looks like a good cam for ya.

y can't u run headers? my friend has headers on his '55 with an LS1 in it... they were custom made, but y wouldn't a set of camaro long tubes work on an S10? i would use the 212/218-.522/.527-114 cam in an S10, with a converter around 26-2800, depending on the weight of the truck... the smaller cam won't need any tuning, where the bigger cams will need some...

Some do, some don't. But that doesn't mean something's wrong with it, it just needs tuning.

The ASA came to mind also, but if he's sticking with stock exhaust manifolds, I don't see the ASA being good for his application.

The COMP Xtreme 216/220 .525/.532 114 seems to be the cam to go with in this case, but then again, I would do everything possible to get some headers on that thing to go with a bigger cam.

the 212/218 cam will make the most low end of all the cams mentioned, and be the easiest on the springs, and need no tuning... great cam for a truck...

That was my first choice. Also in case he gets headers, he could always get SLP 1.85 rockers to jack the cam lifts up and get more rpm.

Because of how the chassis of the truck is constructed. Basically same reason why Vette long tubes won't work on a fbody. Maybe the passenger side will clear but there is no way the driver's side is gonna work at all. You have the clearance stock manifold on the driver's side to clear the steering shaft so there is no way a fbody header will fit.

That is a really bad idea. Maybe you should call Thunder Racing before you try that.

You know you should spend the $150 bucks for the 918 springs...best case you're going to be out a valve or two, a piston or two and a lot of labor when you learn why not to use LS6 springs with a TR220.

If you have to use LS6 springs, the Hot Cam is the biggest cam you can safely use.

IMO a TR220 would be great for you, but spend the money and get some 918's.

if you are sticking with stock exhaust, you are going to need something with alot of exhuast duration to make up for the loss in flow.
