These are the heads I want to run. I'm curious to see what power you make through the auto. I would say at least 420rwhp.

Sounds good!

Who ported the heads?

arock24 Oct 17, 2012 12:42 PM

It was a local shop that does the porting for the majority of the performance shops around here. I had VERY minimal porting done due to budget restrictions and the fact that I'm not looking to take this engine any further as far as power is concerned. A 408 will be my next step. Now the focus is drivetrain. Looking to go with the s60 from Carl and probably a stage 2 4l60 from Performabuilt.

As far as HP estimates, I have SEVERAL peers with the v2/v3 cam and most are putting down 410-420 with a4's and an m6 with my exact set up with 438rwhp. My hopes are 410-415 to the ground.

Nice, I am installing those heads over the winter. Only with a carb. Sounds sweet!!!

I would have preferred the stage 1 ls6 PRC's. IMO if someone is purchasing 243's and planning on paying anything more than 500-600 to get them worked on, save the trouble and pick up the PRC's. I just happen to get a decent set of 243's cheap and the shop was very reasonable on their machining prices so I couldn't pass it up. No regrets though, the 243's seem to pair up with the v3 just fine!

Same setup here....I couldn't take the sound with my old GMMG. Went with Kooks duals and it sounds much more refined. I may put some 1 7/8" headers on over the winter to see how much more I can squeeze out. All in all a good proven H/C combo for the price.

"Looking to go with the s60 from Carl"

Thats the route i went and couldn't be happier. Looking into the detroit locker option, its only 70 bucks more i think.

Sounds good man, love the exhaust, I have the same cam and 243's but a LM1 exhaust. TOO Loud lol.

arock24 Oct 19, 2012 01:46 PM

Yea, I never thought I would come to question whether my exhaust was "too loud" but I'm there. Between my cross flow fm40 and my cme merge out the back..it's obnoxious. I won't be changing anything though, the neighbors and wife are going to have to live with it.

Streetknight- those are some decent numbers through a built auto and 9". What have you trapped?

No 1/4 info yet. 1/8 mile it runs mid 7.60's. It needs more stall, but I'm gonna spray it so not getting rid of the 3200. It's full weight, with my fat ass its 3740#

sweet car man sounds so nasty im actually about to do the exact same thing with the ported 243's and the v3 im so glad i found this thread lots of good info. i was planning on doing the ls6 lifters (had some low milage ones laying around) any reason why to pay 130 for the ls7's over the ls6's. i plan on doing the trunion upgrade too. what size pushrods did you need? also is this 111lsa? I have most of my parts (oil pump, timing chain, gasket set, lifters, rockers, heads) just waiting a week or so to drop the 700 from texas speed for the cam pushrods and valve springs. did you ever put her on the dyno? mines going in a t56 car with 4:10's tho. itll be funnnnnnnn

What's your idle speed? Our cars sound very similar tone wise, and also about how much they chop (I have a 228/232/111 cam)...but mine sounds like its actually idling at a slower speed? My idle is set to stock at 800RPM, how about you?

No even close to that #...more like 375-390 with the converter locked. But numbers don't mean much with a stalled auto as you know.

Trunnion upgrade is a good idea. No real need to change to LS7 lifters if you have good low mile LS6's laying around. PR length will vary...I needed 7.35" but a good idea to measure for a quiet and efficient valve train.

I ended up making very good numbers with this setup...see sig.

Well after a nice lengthy divorce, I finally got around to finishing up the project. 36lb injectors and a high output alternator was added along with the final tune. Should have some numbers after I get back from Michigan in a week. I have roughly 4k on the setup without a single hiccup.
