Default 2002 LS1-what trans to use 4l60e or 700R4

I recently purchased a complete 2002 LS1 Z28 motor to include the harness and computer however no tranny. I'm currently in the hunt for a 700R4 or the 4l60e trans, which was originally behind the LS1. MOST importantly can a 700R4 be made to work behind the LS1 and what would it take to make this happen? Fly wheel, torque convertor, computer tweaking????

I know the 4L60e was stock behind this motor. I just like the idea of a non electric trans if it can be done.

Thanks

4l60e

why you would go with an older unit is beyond me. the 700r4 would take more effort and time for no gain.

Replacing the factory 4L60E in the car with a 700R4 is just plain crazy and doesn't make any sense what so ever. Strength-wise they are about the same but a 4L60E will just bolt-in and all the electronic plugs would work like they should and you be able to tune the transmission through the tune which is way easier then messing with 700R4.

What they said above...

and also: the later 4L60E (and the 4L65E) has a 2-piece case (i.e. removable bell housing) which has been shown to be stronger than the previous 1-piece case.

Have you looked into a 200 metric? They don't use electronics I believe, and can be made to hold power with overdrive

The 700 does not use electronics either. All you need is a box to control the lock up.

I'm not sure if the 700 converter is the same as the 4l60e or if it will even work on an ls flex plate.

Also, the problem with the 700 is you would have to rig up a tv cable. If you're using a carb for whatever you're putting it in, It wouldn't be a problem.

the PCM (which the OP said he has) controls both the LS1 and the 4L60E simultaneously together...

i.e. these three components already fit together without requiring re-engineering.
