Engine is a 408, eagle crank and rods, diamond pistons, AFR heads, LS7 lifters, custom cam. Motor has about 1,000 miles on it.
My buddy was racing a vette. He accidentally spun the motor to 7800 RPMs. He let out and coasted and then the gauges all went to zero and the motor cut off simultaneously. (I'm thinking power failure) he then tried to start it back up and it would just click. He trailered it back to the house and tried to start it and it fired right up no problem and ran fine. Perfect oil pressure but there was a rattling sound in the top end. He drained the oil into a strainer and found two super small metal shavings. Nothing alarming. He pulled the heads off to get the lifters out because we were thinking failed lifter and found 2 more small shavings in one of the lifter trays. The lifters appear to be fine but its hard to tell just by looking. The rollers are rolling fine and all that. We are kinda freaking out because there is no obvious sign of failure. What would you do? Pull the bottom end apart or rebuild the top end and see what happens?
He said it sounded like a penny rattling around under the intake when he was backing it off the trailer. Not a knock or anything like that.

Same exact thing happened to me. Except this is what happened to mine.
i'd consider putting Morel link bar lifters in. I have been seeing an awful lot of failed LS7 lifters recently. My LS7 lifters only had 1500 miles on them.
I doubt anything let go in the bottom end. You could always pull the oil pan and check I guess.
