ls1 cam swap low numbers??
Hi,
I just had my car dyno'd on a dyna pack dyno by a great tuning shop. Not at all concerned about the tuner. My ls1 has a 224 .551 114 cam,1 3/4 full length headers,ls6 intake and a vararam. Car made 346 whp and 340tq. The torque is over 300 from 2800 to 5800.Car drives great and feels strong. Just wondering why such a low number? I was expecting 380 ish.
Thank you.

Dynos are tuning tools. You will see dyno #s vary depending on numerous situations and conditions. As long as it drive and pulls hard to your satisfaction, no worrys.
If I were you, I would take it to the track for some Speed and ET times. That will tell you how much power you really have. BTW your cam choice is not big. Stock LS1 will dyno at about 310-315. So you did gain.

You don't mention what transmission and which converter or clutch for either which can make a difference. If that was with an unlocked auto with a large stall that sounds dead on. Otherwise it could just be a low reading dyno.
As stated dynos are tools for tuning and comparing, HP is just a number.

E/T time is all that matters. As mentioned above the dyno is a tuning tool and also used to measure dick size in some men. Take it out and run it, then you will know the truth.
Also for what its worth i have seen a c5 dyno low then go out and 1/4 mile better than a similar c5 that made more hp on the dyno (yes all the other factors, tires/driver were the same). Run it

Dynos are tuning tools but that statement gets said way to much. Its a bunch of bs to be honest. Not bashing anyone even the slightest but its much better to get a complete idea of what the guy is working with and make an educated guesstimate on what he should be making.
Of course et matters and of course dynos are a tool, but to then say throw that tools info in the trash is bs.
It sounds like you have a 224r and its worth 40rwhp. I understand there is variance but I do feel you may be a little short on power. It could be in the dyno and thats a big possibility since I dont think you are way off on power. You most likely wont hit the 380 you wanted with that cam but 360-370 should be realistic on a dynojet.

I once seen a 01 stang lay down 475 with a charger. Then a 97 lt1 with ported heads barly break 300 on the same dyno. The that lil lt1 put the skull dragin to the stang. Even had time to show him the caution lights. This may have had something to do with the driver but goes to show you the numbers don't mean much.

On that note ill give another example.
My car in sig layed the numbers in the sig another car like it had ported ls6 heads and slightly bigger cam and 4.10 gears. It put down within 10 hp of my car and less tq. I'm saying his heads ,gears fuel pump injectors and all the stuff I don't have and it was only worth 10hp???? Same tuner and dyno ?
We went to the track and he put about a half a second on me and about 5 mph. You can swing on dyno numbers all you want but who woulda new 10 hp was worth .5 of a second and 5mph!
No matter what a dyno says their are to many variables in each car to use a dyno number to decide what a car will run at the track. If the op was to go to two or three different dynos he'd see any where from the 350 he has on up to 400. They'd probably all say something different.
